Just thought I'd mention that Il Sorpasso will be on TCM on Monday at 2 am eastern time (so Sunday night going into Monday). I've never seen it so I'll be recording it since it is one of the titles on my Criterion wish list and this will give me the opportunity to watch it before buying it.

When are the announcements being announced? This Monday or Tuesday?

Also finally got my copy of Eraserhead, and it's frickin brilliant. I also got my copy of Polanski's Macbeth, a major improvement on the DVD, the 4K remaster is superb. Also the documentary accompanying the film is insightful.

Monday, as it's always the 15th (unless the 15th is a holiday or a weekend)

I have to decide whether or not to get eraserhead and macbeth separately, or wait and get them both with the buy 2 get 1 free BN thing, or just get them both off amazon...

Watched Love Streams on BD tonight and it turned me into pile of goo. I never "got" Cassavetes before but suddenly it's all clicking into place and I need to go back and rewatch the films in the box set. And suddenly I'm wishing I had upgraded that box set to BD.

Sigh.. listening to the commentary track now as I collect myself. :/

John Cassavetes is one of my favorite directors in The Criterion Collection. The box set is truly some special, as is Love Streams.

Following it is Fellini's Roma.

Lost my bid for Last Year At Marienbad Bluray on Ebay .

Got like 4 copies of the DVD but want to upgrade, I know I can get UK one but I want the Criterion OOP one grrrr!

only others on UK eBay are like £80ish odd which is fair but I don't have that right now

I really need to sell my Criterion DVD's to fund upgrades, and most I have already upgraded... just can't be bothered with bay's fee's and stuff and paying fortune for tracked delivery etc lol

I agree 100%
The Cassavetes box set is awesome. I haven't got Love Streams yet, but I will definitely check it out in the coming weeks!

I watched Spike Lee's The 25th Hour last night (haven't seen it in so many years) and man, what a perfect film this would be for Criterion.

For someone new to blu-ray, what percentage or how often does Criterion go back and remaster their earlier releases into this format. I was just wondering as I am hopeful for them to give The Friends of Eddie Coyle a shot.

The Friends of Eddie Coyle is one of my most wanted upgrades as well. It will probably happen, just not as soon as we would like I am sure. Tomorrow would not be soon enough for me.

They usually upgrade 1-3 of their catalog a month.

Hear, hear. An upgrade would be terrific. Maybe they'll do an Insomnia/The Vanishing and add a new interview or something to the supplements.

Coyle was issued as a DVD only release in May of 2009, six months after Criterion started releasing blu-rays. There are some fairly impressive titles that were released as DVD only after the blu-ray era began including The Hit, The Fugitive Kind, Dillinger is Dead, Make Way for Tomorrow, Downhill Racer and Hobson's Choice (to name the ones off the top of my head) and, to the best of my knowledge, none have been remastered/re-released by Criterion. Some like Hobson's Choice and Make Way for Tomorrow have been released in other regions since. An HD release of Coyle could happen, but it will most like be a while.

ps.I believe at the time, CC said that the reason such and such title was DVD-only was the rights/distribution agreement was only for standard def, and there might've been titles that the existing elements weren't considered HD worthy.

I would LOVE The Fugitive Kind!

Give us some more Marlon Brando Criterion. Please!
(eg. Julius Caesar, The Chase, Reflections in a Golden eye (with both color palettes), One-Eyed Jacks)

I preordered it (paid a bit more but got it early, and I prefer to think of it as a donation to Shout! Factory since I like what they do), and though I haven't watched every disc yet, the transfers I've seen are pretty great. I'm aware of the Nosferatu debacle, but I haven't gotten around to sitting and watching it to see how it looks in motion as opposed to how it looks in screenshots. The other transfers I've seen are great, however, and getting it for $100 is a pretty great deal. Plus, it's just a handsome set; I keep it on the shelf above my Criterions and it looks fantastic.
