I doubt Mullholand Drive will get a December release. Two Lynch titles being released within three months does not really follow the Criterion release MO. I think March or April 2015 will be the time where we can all start hoping. I hope I'm wrong though.

Default Costco The Big Chill, All That Jazz and Fargo for Hafl-Price

I didn't see if anyone had already posted this, so...

Just FYI: Costco here in SF has Criterion: The Big Chill, All That Jazz and Fargo for Half-Price at $19.99.

Appreciate the feedback on the Eddie Coyle. I will wait....being new to the genre I have plenty to snap up in the meantime. However, I just cannot wait to see this beauty in HD:

Actually, Criterion has done these kind of things before, releasing a title from one director and then another title 1-3 months later. It happened this year with Throne of Blood (1/2014) and The Hidden Fortress (3/2014). They even released two Cocteau films back to back a month apart: Beauty and the beast (7/2011) and Orpheus (8/2011).

So having a december release for Mullholland could be possible, since they have been working on that title for years now.

Repo Man is, in my opinion, Alex Cox's only great movie. But it is amazing. A top 10 picture for me.

For December, I will venture a guess:
The Brood
Midnight Cowboy
Spartacus
Time Bandits (heard rumors they got the rights back)
Watership Down (w/ The Plague Dogs as an extra)

Criterion Fargo ? How did I miss that one ? $19.99 is not an impressive price for Fargo unless you mean the Season 1 of the TV series but that is not out until next month.

Just finished the Cassavetes box set today and i am really impressed, i haven't seen any Cassavetes film before this set.

If i rank them i would say my favorite is definitely Faces, it just feels so real and honest and all the performances are incredible.

The rest would be:

Opening Night
Shadows
A Woman Under the Influence
The Killing of a Chinese Bookie: This disappointed me a bit, but i watched the 1978 version first, not sure which is best.

now i need to watch Love Streams

The Killing of a Chinese Bookie is probably my favorite in the box. Next would be Opening Night. Faces was great too. A Woman Under the Influence had two incredible performances, but I can't watch it too often. The whole flick gives me anxiety. That's great directing. When it makes you feel something. He was and will always be the man.

All five films are excellent, but I would rank them in this order:

The Killing of a Chinese Bookie
Faces
Opening Night
A Woman Under the Influence
Shadows

Shortly after Robin Williams died, I had a (sporadic) mini marathon of some of his movies, which included Insomnia (2002). Now, back when I saw it the first time, I really liked it, and it was cool seeing Williams in a drama/thriller. Rewatching it years later, I found the movie more just...fine, an above average thriller. A collection of good scenes in an otherwise generic, uninteresting narrative that didn't provide much tension. It felt like a TV movie. I'd put it at or near the bottom of Nolan's oeuvre I'd say.

Now I'm wondering if it's worth getting the Swedish film with Stellan Skarsgard. Is it just the same exact story with slightly better execution? Does it have tension and atmosphere and a more engaging narrative and more cinematic cinematography? Is it different in any significant way from Nolan's film?

Basically, I'm asking if it's a much better movie or not.

Oops! My Bad. It was the one of the three that I didn't pick up. I thought it was Criterion... but, alas, 'twas not the case. My apologies... (I think it was $8.99).

But the other two are at a GREAT price! And returnable, No Questions Asked, from now and until All Eternity.

I also picked-up Rain Man Remaster for $8.99.

Costco (at least back when I had a membership) was occasionally known to put things out early. And yes, even a month early. I recall getting a couple of titles that far in advance.

There was also Life Aquatic (05-2014) and Mr. Fox (02-2014).

Has there ever been a two disk Criterion Blu ray. I mean a second Blu ray disk especially for special features, I know they have those duel format Blu-rays and DVD's like everyone else.

Red River has a second Blu Ray. And On The Waterfront probably does too.

Those both have multiple versions of the movie, hence another disk for the other versions.

Seven Samurai and The Night of the Hunter if I'm not mistaken.

Battle of Algiers is another one. I'm sure there are more. They have some blu rays that don't look as good as they could've if the special features were put on a second disc. The fact that they decided to have dual format releases probably created even more of such cases.
