I thought it was interesting that apparently they actually do work down-to-the-wire on titles before announcements. She said they're just putting final touches on the January stuff now. I had assumed they had a bit more of a gap in the schedule to accomodate potential problems at the production level, but I suppose this explains why we have cases where there's a missing spine number for a month as a title is pushed back and another brought forward in its place.
Also a little bit surprised she wasn't sure of Anderson in 2015, just saying "most likely" - accoridng to Costco's magazine just this past June/July, Anderson was in the office screening one of his films. I doubt he just popped by to revisit Rushmore; surely he was recording a commentary on Moonrise? She also expressed doubt at a three-year exclusivity period which makes sense to me. Anderson's films are always at different studios anyway so surely there's leighway. |

(1) Television plays by the great British TV writer Dennis Potter. He's best known for Pennies from Heaven and The Singing Detective, but he's done a lot of terrific stuff. What I'd really like to see of his on BD are his last two (linked) mini-series, Karaoke and Cold Lazarus. (2) Armistad Maupin's Tales of the City, the original mini-series that was made for PBS, as well as the two sequels made for Showtime. Oddly enough, while all three were released on DVD, they came from completely different labels. Chasing down the rights may well be a nightmare. (3) Fallen Angels, a Showtime anthology from the mid-90s that adapted stories by some of the great pulp crime writers, including Raymond Chandler, Dashiell Hammett, Cornell Woolrich, David Goodis, Jim Thompson, and Evan Hunter, as well as some more modern practitioners like James Ellroy and Walter Mosley. The episodes were also directed by A-class directors like Steven Soderbergh, Peter Bogdanovich, Alfonso Cuarón, and Agnieska Holland. The first season (6 half-hour episodes) was released on VHS, but not the second season (8 half-hour episodes + 1 full-hour episode). No episodes were released on DVD. (4) Picture Windows, another half-hour Showtime anthology, with the episodes inspired by notable works of art. The six episodes were directed by Norman Jewison, Jonathan Kaplan, Peter Bogdanovich, Joe Dante, Bob Rafaelson, and John Boorman. The first three episodes came out on DVD merged together as a 90-minute movie. |

If criterion will release more Malick films, there is a good possibility of the longer take of The Tree of Life. The cinematographer of the movie, Lubezki, has mentioned his desire to see the longer cut on blu-ray.
Here is the article http://blogs.indiewire.com/thompsono...e-tree-of-life |

Lynch, on the other hand, is famous for the newly-released Eraserhead, the soft-announced Mullholand Drive, and the non-CC projects Blue Velvet & Twin Peaks. |

As far as television material goes, I'll restate my wish from a few days back for Criterion to release the 1984 British television movie, Threads.
There were quite a few television shows on these shores, though, that made waves even if they did not last long. James at 16 (1977-1978) is one example. I cannot really think of any that stand out as Criterion fare, though. |

Would rather have The Budapest Hotel over Moonrise Kingdom. Just my 2 cents, although, I'm sure both will be CC before we know it.
