It might be interesting to know what these figures mean considering how many Criterion titles are available on DVD and BD vs those that are only on DVD and those that are only on BD.
Of course I would have not been surprised if I had been told they sold more DVDs as they started out with those, but if you tell me it's the other way around, I may be stuck in the past. Do they have more BDs or DVDs?

Oh wow, I didn't know that. Being a Baumbach title, it seems like it might also be a one off...I'm still surprised it hasn't received a Blu-Ray upgrade yet. If I'm not mistaken, I believe Lionsgate is known for not licensing out their titles, which is why I'd say these are one offs, but a deal for more titles would certainly be nice!

I don't think it's larger, but I think it's maybe a more important and reliable market, if it's composed so much of institutions like libraries, etc (which they've said in the past).

While my rather new library does stock BDs, their selection is absolutely dwarfed by the DVDs on hand. And that's after 14 years of BD as a format?

Done with L'immagine Rtrovita. Hopefully, Criterion will tone it down because they're collaborating with them. A bit worried but I'll still buy because I have the DVD for In the Mood for Love rn. I don't have his other works so it's worth the upgrade for me.

Wong Kar-Wai Announcement on Twitter with Details

EDIT: I think it's just me going crazy but I think I'm seeing some red bleeding out on the edges sometimes. I see it on the shot of the smoke and the light and on the edge of Tony Leung's hair in the rain scene at the last few frames before it gets cut. I'm going to get this though because I only have the DVD version of this movie and none of Kar-Wai's other works.

I don't think there are any titles which are blu-ray exclusive, so they have more DVDs than Blus.

Last time I was at a Barnes & Noble sale, they still had a lot of DVDs on the shelf, I wouldn't be surprised to hear that DVD still sells better "in-store", but blu-rays account for more of the direct website orders.

oh no. I'm praying that all of the films aren't yellowed. I'm glad I held onto my old copies of his films and suggest that everyone else does the same.

I think that is one of the titles that they are rumored to have relicensed.

YES!!!

Guess I won't have to be buying the DVD then. I can wait as long as it's planning on coming out.

Dunno if this has been mentioned before (I did do a search), but Roger Deakins mentioned on his podcast that he is working with Criterion to release The Man Who Wasn't There by the Coen brothers.

I'd love a François Truffaut box set. Sorry to say, 400 Blows blu-ray now looks dated.

I'd say the only Truffaut discs that look perfectly good in 2020 would be The Soft Skin, Day for Night and Jules and Jim. Artificial Eye released Two English Girls on Blu-ray and it still looks really good. I can't remember but a few others might still look good for 2020. however there are some that definitely need a new scan for 2020.

SO . . . I hope Truffaut is the next big director box set.

I've had the two Artificial Eye boxsets (The Adventures of Antoine Doinel: Five Films by François Truffaut and The François Truffaut Collection) on my Amazon UK wishlist for about a year. I liked the few movies of his I've seen, 400 Blows, Day for Night and Jules and Jim. Oh, and Shoot the Piano Player, which was okay. Might be missing one. I'd be interested in a new collection too. But I really want Kurosawa before anything.

I would get a Truffaut set, but I say it should be Kurosawa first!

I hope Criterion decides to do a large boxset every year. At least one each year. Hopefully more.
