Why thank you! I like being introduced to new things. New artists. Film provides such a wonderful opportunity for self growth.

I applaud Criterion for making a conscious decision to celebrate more diversity in the collection, and I want to show my support with my wallet. I’m extremely interested in exploring Black Cinema, as well as films directed by women. I also want to explore documentary filmmaking a good deal more.

As for the Kennedy documentary set, I’ve long been fascinated by his Presidency. The Smithsonian Channel has been showing documentaries about his assassination. And Showtime has been showing the excellent Thirteen Days about the Cuban Missile Crisis; I watched them all, and it dawned on me that I still needed to buy the Robert Drew release.

How are you guys making those images with all the movies you bought? Is it just saving the images and putting them in paint/photoshop?

I agree on The Gunfighter. Maybe it gets overshadowed by Winchester ‘73 released the same year. IMO they’re both great Westerns and I’d hate to have to choose between them if I could only own one.

You need to link the page of each Criterion title you’d like to include with the number that appears in the top link. Trust me, I had a hard time doing this initially.

Not fair, Hoytereden. 😝 I hadNaked City and Brute Force on my list to the final cut down. Now I’m regretting not buying at least one.

The problem with this darned site is it’s open 24 hours, like a diner out in the country, right by the highway. I start looking, again, at all the orders you guys put in today, and a movie I forgot about suddenly sparkles like a star in the night sky, beckoning to me.

“Buy me!”

And here I am at 2 am watching another Criterion on Showtime, Tootsie, and I’m remembering what a great film it is. And I ask myself, “why haven’t I bought this yet?”

These are bad thoughts to have while the sale is still ongoing.

I get the whole 4K thing. I do. And I do think Criterion will eventually dip one of their tootsies in the pool to see how the waters are. But beyond all the rancor of 1080p vs 4K, seemingly every month, Criterion reminds me why I fell in love with their label. They were my gateway drug, if you will, to the wonderful world of boutique labels. Twilight Time and Kino, Warner Archive (who announced Libeled Lady today. I nearly leapt out of my chair with glee!), soon followed by those across the pond, including Eureka Entertainment, Powerhouse Films and Arrow.

Every month, something I want gets announced, or, something I soon take the plunge on. I read a synopsis, watch a trailer, and read the comments you guys make, and these movies help me to discover more about myself. I find interests I didn’t know I’d have. I’ve always tried to have an open mind, but these films really broaden my horizons.

So, I just want to say thank you to both Criterion, and all of you. The wonderful discussions, the reviews you guys write and share-now more than ever, as I am stuck inside-as we all are-these things really matter. Our shared love of film makes this dark time a bit brighter. I appreciate all of you.

Now I have to hold off on placing another order until noon! 😝

Man I hear ya. This place makes it easy to talk oneself into buying "just a few more!" lol. I passed up some like Naked City, True Stories, Nashville, Tree of Life, Dreams, etc. etc... that I'd love to have. I used to have a sizable DVD Criterion collection but on BD, I try to limit myself to films I know I'll rewatch or that I've long had interest in seeing.

4K UHD is indeed awesome but the selection is pretty limited still. So many of CC's releases would likely never see a Region-A release otherwise, nor with as much care and respect. I can't justify passing them up in hopes they might get a UHD someday.

Has there been any indication of an Atom Egoyan Collection from Criterion recently?

Let's say you want to link In a Lonely Place.

Search for it at the top of this site.

You'll end up here: https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/In-a-...Blu-ray/70461/

Now take the number from the Blu-ray.com website address for the movie - 70461 - and do this:

[BD]70461[/BD]

Voila!

Excited to be able to sit down and watch it all. Love these kinds of sales. My only question is how is Criterion's shipping? Are the items in the package usually packed well and not prone to get ruined.
Never had an issue. A notch above Amazon, if that gives you an idea. Orders of 3-4 films or more are packaged in a cardboard box, usually with some kind of attempt at padding (like brown paper). I believe they have used those annoying corrugated cardboard mailers that sort of "stick" to the cases for smaller orders (1-2 titles), but I haven't experienced that.

Given my interest in the Cold War and 1960's history, I really should get this, too - if only to marvel at a time when politicians were even vaguely competent, eloquent, and statesmanlike.

One of the C-SPAN channels was showing the first Kennedy/Nixon debate to coincide with this years and what a contrast! Respectful to one another, no interrupting, no shouting, etc. It’s shameful what it has devolved into.

Believe it or not there is a common thread to all my choices and that's the fact that I am one eclectic bastard.

Doing the math... Including the two discs of THE LEOPARD and a second copy of THE GUNFIGHTER that is for my brother, plus three applied $10 certificates and the the g.d. tax, each individual disc in my order wound up costing $11.46. Plus I got a $50 certificate for a future order. For a wealth of Criterion goodness, that's

They were near the top on my most wanted upgrade list so I had to snag them. Now if we could get the two David Lean Dickens’ that’d be time.

I was looking through my past orders and realized that I never placed an order that was American heavy so I rectified that:

Struggling to decide if I should put an order in - even at this rate it is more expensive than buying UK titles, so I have to be wary of buying a US disk in case they announce it for the UK.

This might be my last chance before the new duty rules add mandatory 20% VAT to all imports to the UK (which would put the unit price up to about £30/$39). I'm also only 138 points short of a coupon... the clock is ticking

Been reading about that. One has to wonder if certain US-based sites will cease exporting to the UK in order to avoid the complication of being responsible for collecting UK VAT.

What a strange world we live in where country A expects country B businesses to raise tax revenue on its behalf...
