I don't understand these practices.
I've ordered used books on ebay and have it arrive in a plastic bag with no padding at all. They do that even with hardcover books which is ridiculous. Since the items are often listed as 'very good' or 'good' condition, they can get away with damages during shipment which wouldn't work if it was 'new' or 'like new'.

Returning is a convenient option yes, but there are unintended consequences we should keep in mind.

I've always assumed returned products are resold (if unopened), or refurbished and re-sold if opened or used. But according to the above-linked investigation, that's not necessarily the case.

Shop responsibly, folks...

I can't find a script online, but it is the line where

I have a not so good memory for specific details / plot points of the movies I see, but I do remember having an opinion that contrasts the idea of a "much stronger" ending for Forty Guns, so I looked it up here on the thread from a few years back. (quoted above)

Just to throw my 2 cents in.

I thought Forty Guns was a special film in a genre that is a dime a dozen. That isn't to say that The Gunfighter, which I haven't seen yet, is better, but the Fuller film is not your average western experience.

Expiring from The Criterion Channel - Dames (1934)

I ONLY HAVE EYES FOR YOU! To be honest, I generally can't stand musicals (with a few notable exceptions - including Annie, which is one of my childhood favorites). But Dames is so much damn fun to watch, so joyous and infectious, that I cannot imagine anyone disliking it.

Even though Joan Blondell is given top billing, she's definitely not the star here - there are 3, 4, maybe even 5 other actors ahead of her in the cast with more prominent roles. Still, she shines whenever she's onscreen. With most (all?) of Blondell's movies expiring from the Channel at the end of the month, I'll definitely be diving into more her work...

I really loved the structure of Dames. A little over half of it is dedicated to telling the story - a millionaire offers his brother-in-law ten million if he's a "moral" man, as various comedic misunderstandings pose a "threat" to that "morality" - with the final 35-40 minutes literally turning into the stage play that had been referenced throughout the rest of the film. I've never seen another movie adopt that format. I thought it was very cool, clever, and inventive.

As for the stage play itself...oh boy! Such a sheer visual spectacle. The kaleidoscopic imagery, the incredible choreography, and of course the memorable songs (especially "I Only Have Eyes For You"). It is unbelievable to me that this movie is from 1934, because it looks decades ahead of its time.

DaBargainHunta's Decree: An absolute treat to watch! I am shocked how much I really loved it. (Subtitles/Captions: Yes!)

Since the films are unlikely to hit blu anytime soon, any comments on the Eclipse Silent Ozu: 3 Crime Dramas DVD set? Tempted to just pick it up during the 50% off sale.

So I finally opened up my Godzilla boxset a year after getting it after watching the Eureka MoC release of Mothra(awesome & grab it while you can with the box & booklet)
Got disc 3 out which was heavily wedged in there & just noticed what I am pretty sure is adhesive on the side of the disc(not top or bottom) just short of an inch

Is this safe to play? Is there any way to remove it without damaging the disc or is replacthe way to go?

I'm not convinced Amazon has any policy on packaging - I suspect the packers are under so much time pressure they just grab the nearest thing to hand, regardless of what the item is. Could be wrong though

If you liked Dames, then you should absolutely check out Gold Diggers of 1933 and Footlight Parade, which are also leaving the Channel this month.

Hey I was just thinking of a perfect film that the Criterion Collection should pick up as a future release: Stand and Deliver. This film has NEVER been released in blu-ray anywhere. This is such an inspiring and well-made movie with a diverse Latinx cast that would benefit greatly for being in the collection. Edward James Olmos (who was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor at the 61st Academy Awards) and Lou Diamond Phillips (nominated for Best Supporting Actor) were incredible in this movie, plus its based on a true story. In 2011, the film was deemed "culturally historically or aesthetically significant" and was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress.

Janus/Criterion, if you're reading this, please look into releasing this unique and special film.

Small correction, Lou was nominated for a Globe but missed out on the Oscars.

Great film though, have been waiting to upgrade my snapper disc for ages.

I cancelled my Amazon order for that reason.

EDIT: I placed my order Wednesday, received a shipping notification Friday, and it was delivered today, Saturday.
