Still haven't received any shipping notice on the Essential Fellini Set from Amazon US, everyone has their Preorders shipped out except for mine. They even have it In Stock so why hasn't my order been shipped out, I don't know why I even bother with Amazon anymore as they have done this to me so many times with Preordering their products. Should I just cancel if I hear nothing in a next few more hours, and just order it agin.

And just to be an eternal optimist, the Wong kar-Wai set is Criterion’s first 4K.
I'm hoping for upgrades of Ratcatcher and especially Spirit of the Beehive. And the Netflix deal continues (hoping for Mudbound and Okja personally).

Just finished "The Story of Temple Drake" - I knew nothing about it, and it turned out to be one of my favorite criterion releases of the past couple years. It's a great pre-code movie that avoids a lot of the melodrama cliches and traps that movies and performances fell into in those days. It's really well shot, and has a great performance by Miriam Hopkins. Additionally, I thought all three of the features were interesting and added to the understanding of the film (especially the John Bailey one about the DP).

It's probably still the best film adaptation of a Faulkner novel.

I still haven’t watched The Story of Temple Drake, but so far my award for best Faulkner adaptation would be The Tarnished Angels.

Completely agree. I watched it last week plus all the extras, excellent release.

I was pretty shocked at how vanilla this disc is. There isn't even a "supplements" section as the only extra there is apart from the commentary is a Jeffrey Wright interview. Even my R1 DVD has more

There is plenty they could have included such as specialists talking about the horrendous Lawrence Massacre(great informative booklet included though especially for those abroad that knew nothing about the massacre), cast/crew interviews, even Jewel's promo video. Hell, there aren't any trailers!

What are some of the other Criterion titles that have the least extras, & if any reason, why?
Letter Never Sent..a real shame.

Barnes still coming through all these years. Ordered the Fellini set on Sunday night, arrived this morning. This is like the Bergman set to me though. It may take 2-3 months to get through it. Can't swallow down too much at a time. I do have to watch Cabiria this weekend though. Have been waiting a LONG time for this to get a blu from CC. I'm so glad I unloaded my single Fellini copies once this set was rumored. The box reminds me of a big Fannie Mae candy box full of goodies!!!

Irishman disc has a couple of deep scratches. Anyone know if Criterion will replace? And do they make you send the disc back? Trying to avoid Amazon’s replacement program so they don’t get mad at me for too many replacements.

Yeah, I just saw "Letter Never Sent" for the first time about a month ago. Seriously one of the best movies in the collection - that fire sequence is beyond belief.

There are a bunch of barebones / nearly barebones blu's, you can distinguish by the fact that they're usually cheaper than the bulk of the catalog. If you list Criterions from lowest price onwards, the ones that show up first are such titles:
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/movie...0&sortby=price

Leave Her to Heaven just has an interview with Imogen Sara Smith.

I used to work at Amazon. You can return things a million times and they don't bat an eye. They lose no money and could afford it even if they did. I would just do that. To my knowledge, Criterion will only replace manufacturing defects. They should not have to pay for something damaged by Amazon.

I don’t think it the fault of Amazon’s shipping, though. The disc wasn’t loose in the packaging.

AH. Still though, I would assume the process will be much much quicker through Amazon.

Blind bought and watched Come and See tonight.

It might be the best war movie I have ever seen. It now makes me think of Saving Private Ryan as almost cheesy. Still well done of course but the more Criterion the watch, the more snobbish I get about movies.

Masterful acting, sound design and cinematography. I went in expecting to be crushed and honestly it wasn't THAT bad but it's still haunting, realistic and exhausting. The main kid's acting is off the charts and looks like he aged 70 years in 2 hours.

I've decided for Thanksgiving it's Seven Samurai time which is also a blind buy. I've been putting it off due to the length but a day off from work will not go wasted.

Honestly, this movie passes surprisingly quickly despite the length. It's an enigma. This is a 3 1/2 hour, black and white, foreign language film that I still have found can captivate newbies and naysayers as easily as any flashy, modern Hollywood blockbuster. It really defies explanation how it's possible. An absolute masterpiece.

Glad to see a Jewel fan out in the wild. I've always loved her—grew up listening to Pieces of You because of my parents. Jewel was my first concert, actually. I saw Ride with the Devil for the first time a few years ago, and really loved it—I like westerns, but only if they have grit to them, which it does. Jewel's acting in it is also quite good.

Admittedly, Criterion's Ride with the Devil disc is pretty lean on special features. I would've loved some interviews with the cast (Jewel included—curious how she ended up in the film). As far as bare-bones Criterion discs go, there are quite a few; as was already mentioned, the recent Leave Her to Heaven release had the singular interview with Imogen Smith, which was kind of disappointing—Smith's interview is fantastic (I love all of the stuff she's done with Criterion), but the film itself deserves more in the way of bonus features. The quandary I suppose is that everyone involved with it is dead. Still, a commentary from someone would've been nice (a feature-length commentary with Imogen Smith would've been great).

I recently picked up Criterion's edition of I Married a Witch, which is also lacking in supplements—there's one audio interview with Rene Clair, plus the trailer, and that's it (to be fair, though, Barnes & Noble had it priced at a lower $29.99, so I got it for $14.99 during the 50% off sale). Black Moon is another one that is low on supplements, and would benefit from more context (especially given how out-there it is).

I posted about scratches on new discs recently but no one said anything. Are they on the outer edge? I think there is a manufacturing issue recently. I ordered Irishman as well, let’s see what condition it is in. Should be here Friday.
