Oh, that's good. I'd hate for there to be a small nick on the inside joint of the spine of one of the film cases, forcing you to ship it back and/or request an exchange...

I also buy them all in BD. Why?

I remember a time before the internet when I could rent an obscure/non-commercial movie without knowing nothing about it and discovering something unique. This is part of the reason I blind-buy most/some of the movies in the CC catalogue. Others are: quality and care they give to every release (future proof); owning important/historical/alternative movies that if not for CC one wouldn't have the chance to watch/own.

I'm fortunate to have a very eclectic taste in movies and art in general so I can enjoy a movie for it's technical qualities even if I don't like/enjoy the movie in a first or second viewing. Last Year in Marienbad comes in that category eg.

You hit the nail on the head there partner.

Why does it matter? I blind buy in one way or another nearly all of my Criterions. I find it more exciting that way. With the exception of TTRL I have bought them all at half price. So if I do not enjoy it then i always have the option of selling it for very close to what i paid for it.

Everyone here is a collector obviously and I'm sure 99% of you have bought a title you were on the fence about but pulled the trigger just to add another spine into your collection. There are probably 5 titles I am not interested in out of the collection but i will probably get them at one point or another just to complete it. Maybe a few of them will surprise me.

On another note. Anyone know if Videodromes packaging will be similar to it's DVD counterpart?

I've only had one issue with them. My copy of Night of the Hunter received the other day had a small tear on the outer cover corner. Not bad enough to bother asking Criterion for a replacement though. They are still inferior packaging to the nice clear cases, but I'll deal with it

Couldn't thank them enough for that.

It is worth it to me to keep movies after watching them because many of the films I hated when I first watched them at 18, I now love at 29. And yea, I have tons of titles on the shelf that have not been watched yet but I always have something new to watch when I'm in the mood for a certain genre. Just last week I was thinking that I should try and watch a different Criterion movie every night next summer.
I have nothing against your purchasing habits but you have to admit something.

You purchase Criterions because you guys are Criterion collectors (and there is nothing wrong with that, I collect steelbooks and toys myself) in the first place rather than old school cinema lovers.

P.S. And can anyone please explain me what spine # mean on Criterion BD's?

If you look on Criterion's site (which, by the way.... is a great site for info, and I'm surprised more people don't check it out more often) they give a spine number for each of their releases..... Seven Samurai is #2 for instance, and House is #539

The spine number is a number listed on the spine of the case..... it's just their cataloging system I guess..... That's why you see people who like to put them in order of spine number rather than alphabetical, or whatever.... I personally don't have an organization system at all (evident by the picture above ) I typically keep the ones I've never seen together.... perhaps the ones I haven't seen on Blu-ray yet together.... and ones I've recently watched might be separate from ones I've watched recently.... but mostly just the first two.... Unwatched/Not watched on BD....

Also one more question.
Are Criterion releases limited edition?
If so, why dont they actually number each blu ray? (wouldnt it be super cool?)

They remain in print until Criterion loses the rights to the film...... The numbers on the Blu-rays are the same numbers they used on their DVDs (that's why, if a #1 spine ever gets put on BD, it'll be Grand Illusion )

I'm not sure about LD, someone would have to fill me in on that, as I never purchased LDs.....

So, obviously due to rights issues etc..... you'll never have a "Full" Criterion Collection without purchasing the DVDs/LDs

Weren't the first two at least, supposedly in the process of receiving new transfers?

Couldn't you basically say that they'll never release Grand Illusion on BD since they lost the rights from Studiocanal? It's a real bummer because I really like Grand Illusion, although the DVD is rather good.

I enjoy film.... and If something comes out with a bad transfer (for instance) I may inquire on what the chances of it being released by someone else, etc.... But I honestly am constantly amazed when people are able to rattle off what studios have the rights to what films etc.....

I just know I have Grand Illusion on DVD.............. If it gets a BD from another studio in the future, I'll buy it if it's a worthy upgrade

I'm not a hater of cardboard so I don't care if there is a dent. The plastic cases is what sucks. I was just posting what I did because of all the people that "went to many B&N stores to find the perfect case!" I just order online and whatever comes, comes.

You all are just mad I got HEAD today and everyone else didn't.
