My interest likely starts and ends with History is Made at Night this time around - which is no bad thing given the number of Criterion titles still on my wish list.

OMG, Criterion actually did a new commentary for Memories of a Murder.

Seems like forever since the last time they produced a fresh one....

2. After Hours (1985, Scorsese)
3. The Last Adventure (1967, Enrico)
4. Bringing Up Baby (1938, Hawks)
5. Pickup on South Street (1953, Fuller)

I ask each poster to name five films (off the top of your head) that you would love to see.
Well I can't not participate in this... Other than a handful of titles that I still want to see upgraded, these are the releases I'd love to see the most

1. The Castle Of Purity (1973, Arturio Ripstein)
2. Zabriskie Point (1970, Antonioni)
3. The Straight Story (1999, Lynch)
4. I'm Not There (2007, Todd Haynes)
5. River Of Grass (1994, Kelly Reichardt)

If you're a subscriber to the Criterion Channel, it's currently available there as well.

With The Furies including the original novel, I wonder if it will be a package like Red River.

According to the Criterion Forum these are the new commentaries from last year:
The Grand Budapest Hotel
Parasite
Il bidone

And The Prince of Tides is the laserdisc commentary, but it had new material recorded for the Blu-ray release.

In terms of 2021, so far, in addition to Memories of Murder, new commentaries are found Minding the Gap (2 new commentaries) and The Ascent (only a select scenes track.)

The Furies is the most exciting announcement for me because of Barbara Stanwyck.

The Wong Kar-wai box set and Memories of Murder are the only thing from Criterion so far in 2021 that I want. Everything else has looks meh to me.

I'm obviously not telling you to like certain things under penalty of death...but really? March and April's slates are both pretty incredible.

Maybe that could be getting prepped for release hence why he didn’t mention it. Probably just wishful thinking. I always want more Altman in the collection.

Streamers would be a fantastic to have. I've been dying for more Altman-Criterion films. Secret Honor and California Split need releases. Badly.

I really wish we had gotten the yearly clue, so we would have some idea what's coming. Besides a few titles, we really are in the dark this year.

Any of the new announcements digipacks? I think maybe Memories of Murder and The Furies might be but I'm going to hope none of them are.

Great month, though. Not for having money but for great film!

Ikarie next month 🤞

While I'm glad to see Criterion upgrading a lot of their DVD titles, I wish they would upgrade more of their Japanese titles. It feels like a million years since we got one from them.
