Try again later. Maybe just a site specific hiccup.
Thanks for checking. Hoping it's just a hiccup. I emailed support but they obviously won't reply until next week.

Losing my wishlist and collection isn't too bad (since I have my collection here and wishlist wasn't long, ~30 titles). Losing my order history isn't the worse either, as it's in my email. Problem is, I don't remember how many loyalty points I had. Judging by my email, it looks like I actually just hit and redeemed a $50 gc in Oct. on the Varda set, so my guess is about 75 towards the next gc.

That Mank cover is fake and won’t be the final. When Geekgab leaks something he just throws a quick photoshop up.

Man, if that's a "quick photoshop" I can't imagine his quality stuff. That cover absolutely looks legit.

Yeah, but it would be nice if that's what they used. Criterion used the official poster from Marriage Story, so maybe they will use this official art for the Blu-ray release.

Granted, there has been no official announcement of Criterion & Netflix making a deal on other Netflix titles being released by Criterion. Last year, they made an announcement that a deal was struck & listed the titles. Hopefully, an announcement is coming soon & Mank is part of the deal.

I would also hope for at some point other titles like Fernando Meirelles’ The Two Popes, George C Wolfe’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Aaron Sorkin’s The Trial of the Chicago 7, Cary Joji Fukunaga’s Beasts of No Nation, Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods, Dee Rees’ Mudbound, Simon Stone’s The Dig, Kornél Mundruczó’s Pieces of a Woman & such but we’ll see.

Geek Gab also mentioned Da 5 Bloods would be coming as well. I'm personally hoping for Buster Scruggs.

I'd buy Buster Scruggs day 1, but I remember the Coens refusing to do any extra feature material for the movie. I wonder if that would affect Criterion's desire to release it.

Malick isn't involved in any extras and that doesn't stop Criterion from releasing his films. However, the Coens not wanting to do participate in special features for Buster Scruggs could be slowing down a release as Criterion tries to figure out what they want to do for its special features.

Hmm. Why did they refuse to do any extra material?

I imagine the special features from The Irishman would provide a good look at how much Criterion would expect to have from a Netflix release. It's not the most robust collection of extras in the world totally about 90 minutes, but Scorsese's in a lot of it.

If the Coens discouraged behind the scenes footage from being shot on set, then all that could happen is retrospective interviews with whomever is willing to sit down as well as perhaps some feature(s) about Western influences from a historian or critic (similar to the Gangster's Requiem feature in The Irishman). That seems kind of light.

Criterion trying to figure out special features does seem like a pretty valid reason for them not releasing it yet, but considering the far greater number of extras on Inside Llewyn Davis, it all feels so weird.

I remember reading it somewhere, but can't remember the source. So, take this bit from me with a grain of salt.

The Coen Bros not wanting to do extra features for 'Buster Scruggs' sounds a bit suspect since they were happy to appear on the Criterion releases of 'Inside Llewyn Davis' and 'Blood Simple'.

It's a little ironic and rather safe that this Geek Gab fella (whether he has inside information or not) picks specifically titles such as Mank and Da 5 Bloods as both are films from directors (David Fincher and Spike Lee) that Criterion have worked and released films by in the past. Geek Gab just is picking them because those are the "safe bets" on being correct. Just saying...

The Coen Brothers' The Ballad of Buster Scruggs is another possible title for Criterion from Netflix and directors they worked with in the past.

Roma was super packed, with like 170 minutes of special features, but I had read they spent a year putting that release together. Marriage Story was also around 170 minutes of special features.

But, you are right, the two Scorsese releases are pretty light, especially Rolling Thunder Revue (however this one does have a pretty meaty booklet.)

So I could see Buster Scruggs being like Rolling Thunder Revue, light on video extras but having a thicker booklet that maybe includes All Gold Canyon by Jack London and The Girl Who Got Rattled by Stewart Edward White.

Park Circus’ website has an astonishingly detailed database of films available with 2K/4K masters available in DCP form. Most seem to be 4K, which indicates more being newer rather than quality as pre-1950 Fox titles survive in variable quality.

Just from looking around, there’s four John Ford silents (three 4K, one 2K - The Iron Horse), a bunch of 30s William K. Howard films, two Frank Borzage silents (Seventh Heaven and Street Angel), a few Shirley Temple films, etc.

Other specific titles with 4K masters listed include Unfaithfully Yours, Thieves’ Highway, Miracle on 47th Street, A Royal Scandal, The Mark of Zorro, How Green Was My Valley, Pickup on South Street, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Hello Dolly!, MASH, The Paper Chase, Patton, Vanishing Point, The Omen, Phantom of the Paradise, High Anxiety, A Wedding, Young Frankenstein, 1900, The French Connection, Norma Rae, etc.

They announced Criterion was going to release The Mirror before anyone else. Same with Heat, Godzilla, and other titles.

It seems like they know someone in the industry. He's not going to just throw out random titles and if those titles don't happen their cred is gone. So, no, it's not about "safe bets". It just comes down to what their insider is telling them.

The Mirror announcement was a safe bet tbh since that was already known to be forthcoming for a couple years now.
