Kurosawa
Fassbinder
Ozu

I don’t know how likely they are, but those are my guesses.

It's Satyajit Ray's 100th birthday this year so I wonder if they do something for that? As you can tell here, a Kurosawa set is one of the most requested sets but I'm not convinced its coming anytime soon.

Thanks for clearing that up, I was confused for a moment.

I would love an Ozu box set. I just recently e-mailed Criterion expressing my hope that at least the Late Ozu films in the Eclipse line would receive an upgrade, after seeing The Ascent get a standalone release.

Edit: I'm guessing he meant Dreyer, or possibly Dardenne.

Dreyer, please. I'll take Ozu, too.

Dreyer only made like 6ish movies if I'm not mistaken, so that should be easy I imagine. Plus Criterion already did Joan Arc and it looks fantastic. I dunno if the others need new scans but that only leaves 5 left. And random question: was the scan for Vampyr done in 1998 that's what it says on the back.

But you are mistaken. He directed 13 feature films from 1919 to 1964, if you exclude Two People (1945) that he disowned. The Passion of Joan of Arc was already his 9th.

Ahh. I only knew these: Michael, Master of the House, Passion of Joan of Arc, Vampyr, Day of Wrath, Ordet, Gertrud.

The restoration was done in 1998, not the scan.

Yeah, it's a film that is IMO in need of a new scan and resto. The current blu of Vampyr is only an incremental upgrade over the DVD.

Kurosawa would be the dream. I have been holding off on picking up more releases of Kurosawa in hopes of my box set.

I was going to say the same thing but then I remembered that a page for 'The Green Ray' has been up for a while. Maybe they will be releasing a Rohmer set with those 5 films?

Suggesting Inland Empire for release by Criterion (as at least one other poster has suggested it). A few weeks ago, I watched an older edition of film documentary series The Directors about David Lynch. Inland Empire wasn't featured in the documentary (Blue Velvet was though, and hopefully I'll eventually be able to get a copy of the Criterion (States) release), but recently I had thought about when I first saw Inland Empire (rented it on DVD I think), and not liking it much. It's one of those films I would like to revisit and see if I'll like it more the second time around.

I thought of Criterion, as they released Mulholland Drive on Blu-ray in the States.

I don't think a Kurosawa set would be complete without Ran. Doesn't Studio Canal have the rights to that one?

It would be nice there was a set coming.
