If you're gonna own one Altman film make it "Nashville". Plus, the MoC disc is also still in-print for the time being.

Kind of conflicted... i love my criterion editions of Nashville, Harold and Maude and Days of Heaven. Missed Rosemary’s Baby and La Dolce Vitta. On the other hand, given Paramount’s renewed interest in physical, i’m kinda hoping to see Nashville in 4k Dolby Vision, maybe even Baby. Heck... Vitta could be the first foreign classic in 4k in the US. Last, but not least, Days of Heaven in 4k HDR. I doubt Paramount took these back just so it could release them in barebones BDs. So here is hoping for the best.

Thanks, grabbed the MoC. I do own one Altman which is M*A*S*H which I got last year since its a Fox title, though I have seen that one a million times and while I didn't like it as much as the TV series its still a favorite of mine and some of the more dark humor moments in it which they would not been able to get away with on the TV show.

Great, I got ****ed. My slow ass deserves it, though. At least there are worthy UK alternatives for the Altman and the Fellini.

That would be great! I would love to see them go that route, but I don't know if Paramount would.

£40 per title on UK eBay or thereabouts not sure I can justify it. At least some of these have UK editions

Nashville does have a newish 4K master.

I think there is almost no chance Paramount releases La dolce vita on UHD. It doesn't star Tom Cruise. Truthfully, other than Rosemary's Baby and, maybe, a very long shot, Days of Heaven, I don't think they'd bother with UHDs for any of these.

You’re probably right. If they were big enough sellers for 4k (as it stands), they would not have been licensed to begin with. At the very least, a new restoration of Days of Heaven then.
But not to turn this into the Paramount thread, the news of OOP titles is always a good reminder not to sleep on any titles you may want. That’s the big limitation of Criterion’s business model. So, do your math, your due diligence, and get buying before these or anything you want ends up on Ebay at 5 times the price!

Yikes! That’s the biggest batch in a while.

Thankfully I have all of the OOP listed. I hope Medium Cool doesn't, I've been trying to get the bluray for awhile and knew I should have picked it up in the flash sale. Everyone praising Paramount for releasing catalog titles recently, now it's backfiring! lol

I feel like there has to be a deal in place allowing La dolce vita to continue to be a part of the Fellini set...I was planning on grabbing it the next B&N sale since I just sold my copies of Ldv and 8 1⁄2 I guess I should’ve bought the set sooner and sold my individual copies later..

I needed to replace my copy of Days of Heaven for a while now, and then this nightmare happens. Going from Criterion to non-criterion is a serious downgrade and feels like a fate worse than death. Why did Paramount do this?

I think a lot of people, me included, sold off all their Fellini in anticipation of the set... oh well I guess

I’m surprised Paramount has it. I didn’t think they were ever associated with the movie

All of today's OOP titles (expect Vita) have DVD releases from Paramount coming next week and BDs (save for Harold and Maude) are due in May.

Allied Vaughn who do WAC, Sony and Universal's MOD output, do Paramount's DVDs. So I'd keep an eye on their retail arm, MovieZyng as a source of things to come.

Eureka just announced Spy Who Came in from the Cold and Criterion The Furies, but they both may have had a use-it-or-loose-it window as both don't seem to be touting new scans.

If there's a shift in licensing from Paramount and there aren't any Wes Anderson-type agreements with a director or estate, I'd likely keep an eye on Election and The Virgin Suicides as the next to go. And Benjamin Button has always been the Cousin Oliver of the collection, so Criterion may let it lapse altogether -- and it's likely plentiful on the used market.

And while the von Sternberg set has little retail value for Paramount outside of a licensing agreement, it has gone OOP before.

Why not just buy Days of Heaven Criterion while it's still in stock at various stores then? It might not be 50% off, but it's not off the market.

If you are in the US, walk into abput 1/2-2/3 of Barnes and Noble stores and pick it up in person if you can beat the scalpers who went rushing out to gather up those 6 titles as fast as possible -- or order it online

If you have a disc that went bad, contact Criterion and see if they'll replace it now that they may have some unsold copies sitting around (possible unsellable depending on their contract with Paramount)

I bit the bullet (of sorts) and just purchased Harold and Maude for $27.99 on Amazon. I’ve never actually seen it (sort of a blind buy), but the opening scene already has my attention. I can live with not having Rosemary’s Baby in my collection. Anyways, I doubt I’ll ever rewatch it more times than I need to. If anyone’s still looking for it, there’s still stock on B&N.com, but it’s at the full $39.99 price.

As you know too well, but for others -- if you want one of these now from BN and order it for shipping, it's likely going to come from the store level if Alliance/Criterion is out and store pick-up may vanish quickly.
