Just bought La Dolce Vita off amazon for a great price. It should be here tomorrow!

I'm not sure if Criterion let them lapse, or if it's simply that Paramount clearly has a newly invested interest in home video releases, and decided not to renew the licenses to them, so they could put it out themselves. The last few months are the most active I've seen Paramount in years.

So if the Criterion loses the licensing rights to La Dolce Vita, does that mean the Fellini set will go out of print too? I heard somewhere (don't remember where) that if they lose the licensing rights to one film that's in a boxed set the whole set goes out of print.

It wasn't mentioned in the Criterion announce of OOP skus so most likely they renegotiated an extension within the box set, since they likely new well in advance of all those licenses expiring.

I wouldn't sleep on it too long though...

I would assume that they had a separate license to include La dolce vita in the boxset. Still, I wouldn't put it off too long.

Was there an actual announcement from Criterion?

About the Paramount titles? No, none like the heads-up about the Studiocanal titles went OOP.

No press release but there was their usual product addition/deletions to retailers.

I usually lurk but I feel compelled to make an account to reply to this. Mine stops in pretty much the exact same spot.

Well, that'll be my first & last time ordering from the Criterion Store.
Didn't realize they put the order total on the shipping label, so have been stung twice for customs by the reshipper on the 2 orders I placed from the sale.

I went and picked up Nashville at Barnes and Noble for $40. I haven't spent that much on a single release outside of imports, and I feel kind of dirty.

Still, it's the cheapest the thing will be ever again, most likely. If there's another, superior release to come from Paramount, I can always pick that up and sell this one for at least what I paid. As someone else noted, Criterion releases are as much collector's items as movies, and once they go out of print that's doubly so.

It, at least, makes me feel less icky.

Forgot to mention: the box set version also has a 52 minute Making Of Doc that isn’t on the previous disc.

I did the same last night, haha, and from B&N. And feel the same, haha. I can't believe I didn't have Nashville...but I just assumed it would be one of those things that would "always be around."

One never can tell...I spent last year picking up any FOX titles I wanted...and now I guess the rest of the Paramounts on other labels are my focus...

I had an old DVD copy, and I was planning on picking up Nashville, along with every other upgrade to a Criterion Blu-ray possible within my collection, at the B&N sale in July. Well, the way I look at it now, I've gone from 9 to pick up in the summer to 8. So that's something.

If you don't mind my asking, what was the source? Were any other titles mentioned (e.g., Friends of Eddie Coyle, Spy Who Came in From the Cold, Seconds)?

Edit: Not that it matters for Spy since I ordered it off eBay in a panic last night... but if I don't have to pay full price at B&N for some of these, then I shan't force myself to.
