Real upset about the suddenness of this Paramount news. Days of Heaven and Don't Look Now (the two on the list I really wanted and hadn't gotten to yet) appear gone everywhere. I doubt Paramount is porting over all if any of the extras. This blows.

No, they most likely made a different deal for that. It just came out in November, I’m sure it’ll stay in print like the Bergman and Godzilla sets have. You can buy it right now pretty much everywhere.

Someone over on the criterion forums emailed Mulvaney just before the 6 titles were announced as OOP about those 6 and Medium cool, as they were all showing as 'currently unavailable' and they've now received a reply saying Medium Cool will be restocked in April and is not in danger of going OOP. They didn't ask about Eddie Coyle as it wasn't showing that status at the time.

Infer from that what you will about any other titles but it's certainly promising that it's not across the board.

I've been gone from the thread for 36 hours and come back and realize just how much news I missed.

Meanwhile, I spent yesterday tracking down the 6 Dr. Seuss books that are now out of print and couldn't find any in local bookstores.

And today I find out another 6 Criterions are now out of print.

Is the number 6 a special number all of a sudden when it comes to batches of books/movies going out of print?

Amazingly I own 5 of the 6 OOP Criterions, one of which is still sealed (La Dolce Vita), except Don't Look Now, only because I hated the ending to the film. But now I'm going to track down a ridiculously expensive copy most likely. Wish me luck, boys!

Funny thing. I went out to my two local B&Ns this afternoon. The closer one had none of the now-OOP Paramounts. At the other one, I managed to get four of the five I needed (I already had La Dolce Vita).

As I was flipping through the alphabetic display, an employee comes up, with a phone to her ear, flips through some of the titles, grabs one and tells the other person on the phone that she found it, and walks off.

Where she was looking was right about where Nashville should've been. That was the only one of the five I was looking for that I didn't find. If I had gone to this store first, I would've probably gotten that as well.

I haven't spent that much on a single release outside of imports, and I feel kind of dirty.

I have a B&N membership, so I got 10% off, which is what it would be if I bought them direct from Criterion (outside of their flash sales). So I'm good.

Unironically Terminator 2: Judgement Day completely restored from OCN with unfugged audio and image/color-timing should be their first UHD release, and Cameron shouldn't be allowed anywhere near anything even tangentially related to decision-making regarding the release.

Everyone saying their Le Cercle Rogue isn't working has me freaking out. I checked it again and it doesn't freeze at the 1 hour and 51 minute mark or at any point.

For those of you that have it freezing, does it freeze for a few seconds and then skips forward, or does it just stop completely?

Managed to score all the OOP criterions I didn't have. Had to pay $40 for Eddie Coyle, but the rest were 20-25.

Since it's likely that Paramount titles will be leaving the Collection as licenses lapse, I figured that I'd take dwk's list of the titles, and re-order them by release date. That might help people try and prioritize them, as the older they've been around, the sooner they're likely to go OOP. I've left the already OOP ones in (as well as not-going-OOP Medium Cool) for context.

Shout don’t, nor do Mondo or apparently Vinegar Syndrome. The only company I’ve ever personally seen do it are Fright Rags, they print the price on the shipping label.
And it wasn’t even an overseas shipment as Criterion don’t ship outside the US. I had it shipped to a reshipper in New Jersey who forward it to me.

Apologies if I misunderstood. So the value was on the label addressed to the reshipper in NJ? I just checked the label on my sale shipment (to MA), and there's no indicated value.
