Anyone have any word of The Friends of Eddie Coyle yet? I know it says “unavailable” on Criterion’s site, but that’s what the others said before they went OOP. Plus, the blu-ray AND DVD say the same thing.

Well according to the post above there is nothing else in their catalog that is due to be OOP in the future per a Criterion employee. It's probably between pressings and most likely will come back in April like Medium Cool.

And the next closest store in Broken Arrow, OK had a copy, but it had been placed on hold. The guy there confirmed at least two unspoken for copies. I called the Fayetteville, AR store and got one. There should still be at least one copy yet available. Call your local store, and have the store manager look up the stock. They’ll give you the store location and telephone number. Ashley went and pulled my copy. Total with tax and shipping was $28.52.

I’ve bought at least 20 used blu-rays from them, including a number of Criterions, and they’ve all been in like new condition.

Good luck.

BTW, if you should grab that copy, you might just make a quick post to let everyone know so they’re not calling Anchorage, Alaska, or someplace. If you’re told that there are still copies (they are constantly getting inventory in), maybe share that, too.
I bought Harold & Maude from Movie Trading Company in one of their B1G1 sale. Both the titles were $19.99...so effectively I bought it for $10...Thankfully I have all 6 recent OOP titles, and I was planning to sell 'La Dolce Vita' since I got the Fellini box in November B&N sale...May be I will wait a little more and sell it for $124 (a whole dollar less than Fellini box)

Just went to Barnes and Noble and was able to snag the last copy of Harold and Maude. Thank god. They didn’t even have it on the floor. It was in the back. Basically they knew it was OOP and to get it you had to ask for it. Kinda scummy but whatever.

On this Friday afternoon, I drove down to Barnes & Noble (a different location) and returned all 3 OOP DVDs I had purchased the evening before. Why? Because I realized other film buffs would want a chance to own them and I didn't want to sell them on Ebay after all. Instead I bought Don't Look Now on blu-ray and will add it to my collection.

Many of you berated me on this thread for doing a wicked deed, and I realize now that it was never in my nature to be a scalper. So I changed my mind and did the right thing. Sometimes one has to get kicked in the balls really hard to get a reality check and become a better person.

In the meantime, SCORE!

I now proudly own every OOP Criterion blu-ray there is!

Wow—I am surprised to see all these Paramount titles leaving. I fortunately have the ones I want and have owned most of them for years (Don't Look Now, Rosemary's Baby, Nashville, Harold and Maude), but no less, this is still kind of a bummer. Seems to have come out of nowhere, too. I recently acquired a few others on Blu-ray in the last few months, namely Days of Heaven and La Dolce Vita—close call, I guess.

Heads up, everyone: as of my writing this, Screen Archives has Don't Look Now in stock. I just ordered one—it's one of my all-time favorites, and one of a few that I'll gladly keep a back-up copy of.

Frances Ha is another title that is unavailable right now.

This is very sweet to read. Glad you changed your mind. I know times are hard and its tempting to do something like this, but seeing posts like this make me happy.

Thank you!! I managed to nab Rosemary's Baby brand new elsewhere yesterday and I found a copy of Don't Look Now for store pickup locally at a B&N. Went to go do something, came back and tried to go through with the order, and the copy had already sold (and no other stores had it available). Even with the shipping cost from SA this was actually just a bit cheaper than B&N.

Thank you so much again, I really just wanted to get this and Rosemary's Baby from the recent OOP wave

Glad you got one! I've found that Screen Archives is kind of an under-the-radar resource sometimes for titles that have gone out of print. I've gotten a number of Blu-rays from them before that were pretty much unavailable everywhere else. I don't think they get as much web traffic as other online retailers, and people don't necessarily think of them first when it comes to stuff like this. Whenever a situation like this comes up, I always check to see if they've got it, and in a lot of cases, they do.

Pretty much all of the going oop titles are in stock at the local B&N, but $40 each is way more than I'd like to pay for a single movie, especially blind buys.

Not without precedent. Since round about Y2K, Warner was the tough licensing nut that no one was able to crack. Criterion did. And Warner was willing to deal only with Criterion until Shout was able to get a license for some titles. So far, there haven't even been any rumors of anyone else working out a deal with Warner.

Would anyone be willing to grab Days of Heaven for me from their local B&N if they have it in stock? They wouldn't ship to Canada.

This is probably my last attempt at getting it before I just give up and get the upcoming Paramount disc.

I also have a sealed copy of Synapse's Massacre at Central High if anyone wants to trade for a copy of Days of Heaven.

Arrow has put out Cruising and Alice, Sweet Alice. Those are WB titles.

I don't recall those titles being problematic. Of the titles that just went out of print, Days of Heaven is the only one that came out (in 2010) when Criterion was dealing with that one pressing plant that had a lot of failing discs. Harold and Maude and Rosemary's Baby came out two years after that, and Nashville another four. Well, the original Nashville Dual-format release came out in 2013, but they replaced that with separate BD and DVD releases in 2016.
