You may already be aware of the Region B BD release from Indicator (if you are region-free).

Criterion lost the rights to two of the four Costa-Gavras titles they had a couple of years ago, but there was no mention at the time (that I remember) of Missing being impacted. So hopefully just a production delay in reprinting.

I'm not region free yet unfortunately. I really need to be. Either way, since it's a Universal title, I would imagine they still have the rights. It has been unavailable for a long time so I am wondering if they are planning on a region A blu-ray coming soon. We'll see what happens I guess. Either way, when I go region free, it's on the top of my list.

Criterion only lost the rights to 'The Confession'. 'State of Siege' is still in-print, while 'Missing' and 'Z' are presumably being prepped for Blu upgrades.

Going region-free was the best thing I ever did as a film buff and BD collector. And the most expensive.

Interesting. I thought it was said they had lost the rights to Z when it went OOP (summer 2018?).

Pays itself off (and then more) super-quick though.

Like, for the current Arrow sale, if you get the US versions they're going to run you $16-$20 each from Grindhouse Video, but if you order the Arrow UK versions they'll average $12 each. Same goes for soooooooo many titles.

Region-free is a no brainer. Will save you money and open up a million new movie opportunities. Plus takes the stress off from "will i be able to play this?" or "did i order the wrong version?", you just never have to worry about it ever again. I can't imagine not being region-free honestly. Best $125 I ever spent.

Criterion/Janus still have the rights to it, as it appears on the Criterion Channel with both logos appearing at the start.

I'm hoping for Tarkovsky's "Mirror" to be announced tomorrow.

Always hoping for more Scorsese (After Hours, Bringing Out the Dead), more Pasolini (Accatone, Gospel of Matthew).

Would love Greenaway's "The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover"

Would love "Queimada!" (Burn!)

"The Painted Bird"!

Amy chance that Criterion has Hud? It’s criminal that this movie has no HD release.

I would say maybe 40% chance. It should have a Blu-ray, and if not from Criterion, I'm guessing we'll see it in eventually from the Paramount Presents label.

Would love to see at least one of these DVD's upgraded to blu tomorrow:

Written on the Wind
Spellbound
Viridiana
Trouble in Paradise
Shoot the Piano Player
Under the Volcano
2 or 3 Things I Know About Her
Homicide
I Know Where I Am Going!
A Canterbury Tale
Le Deuxième Souffle
La Bête Humaine
The Steel Helmet

Any Kurosawa or the much anticipated box set

And maybe a new to blu release from left field...Todd Solondz' Happiness perhaps, or a Paul Schrader masterpiece...the name escapes me. Has some hacks named Nolte, Coburn, Spacek and Defoe in it. That would be nice.

Under the Volcano and Le Deuxième Souffle for sure. Boxsets are usually announced a few days before the 15th, so I'm not expecting a Kurosawa boxset. Maybe in November.

Hoping for an upgrade for Fires on the Plain or Youth of the Beast. Hope they finally release Hunter in the Dark, Cure, and Ronin Gai.

All good points.

The only downside over the past year has been the hike in shipping costs by Amazon (and others), which can negate savings when buying a Region B release over a Region A equivalent (and is just plain frustrating given how much lower they used to be).

A bit strange to not reprint the DVD for three years while prepping a BD upgrade. But then we know Criterion can sit on titles for years.

There are two BD releases: It's part of a German set containing nine westerns, and there is a standalone in Australia that is Region A compatible. From the reviews/comments I've read, they barely surpass DVD quality - with the AU release being the better of the two.

There's a new Kurosawa boxset that has Red Beard and Dodeskaden. Are we getting closer to that Criterion Boxset now?

Hoping they finally announce Written on the Wind this month. It's one of Sirk's greatest films and I'm actually surprised it hasn't been released by now. Would also love to see Trouble in Paradise and Spellbound get blu-ray upgrades.
