Another score for my lack of organization!

If I were you, I'd just surrender to the chaos.....

EDIT:

This will likely not be the last set where you run into this problem....

Maybe put with the A's for America : Lost and Found, or with the B's for BBS Story.

I do have Yojimbo/Sanjuro stuck at the end.
I put box sets at the end unless the films in the set would be after each other when put in alphabetical order anyway. (For example, Fletch and Fletch Lives).

Although I know many people are tired of criterions obsession with releasing Bergman films, I was just wondering if there were any reasons why Criterion have not been able to aquire the rights to Bergmans "Persona"? Concidering that they have released about 75% of Bergmans library, Im surprised that have not been able to release this film (One of his best) as of yet.

Has anyone heard whether its MGM's reluctance to give them the rights to release this title or has criterion just not tried to get it?

After watching the dvd, I can't help but feel that this movie NEEDS the criterion treatment.

Going by my count, Ingmar Bergman has, at least, 50 film productions to his credit and Criterion has only released around 29. So, 58% is what I would consider a little less than "about 75%".

I'm sure there are plenty of films that Criterion has tried to license from various studios, including the Bergman films from MGM. Just like us, I'm sure Criterion has a long wishlist of films that they would love to be able to release but haven't had the chance, yet. With the recent MGM releases coming from Criterion, though, maybe we'll see some of those films in the upcoming years. Patience is key.

I hope you're right but isn't that another one that Studio Canal has the rights to?

I really don't understand the Wes Anderson hate in here. Could somebody please explain it? CG?..JK! Somebody else please!

I say bring on all the Wes Andersons! There's not a single movie he's made that I don't like. There are a couple I don't care to own, but I'm sure somebody else would like to own.

Not Criterion, but just thought I would let some of you know about this deal I discovered, as most of us here enjoy quality films and not just Criterions. Here is a link to the post

I don't hate him, as I've only seen The Royal Tenabaums and Life Aquatic...but Criterion has a hard-on for the guy. Hey, what about that guy Christopher Nolan or those other Hitchock movies?

There is not one single Nolan or Hitchcock film studio that would be willing to part with the distributing rights, period, aside from the few Hitchcock films that Criterion has under their belt. Universal especially wouldn't. Besides, hasn't Universal already given Criterion a bit of trouble with updating their catalog?

EDIT: the definition of "trouble" is certainly relative given that Criterion may or may not have wanted to update their blu-ray catalog with these Universal titles. I only pray for titles like Brazil.

Again..... you're making statements as if they can release whatever they want, whenever they want...... Who knows why Wes Anderson films are routinely chosen or acquired by them..... They're not "hugely" popular films..... yet they certainly sell quite well for Criterion, so in that respect, their decision to release these is quite easy to see.... but again, there are multiple variables at play.

I just hope they don't put it off for a while since they have released so many Kurosawa films on Blu already :/

As much as I like Kurosawa on Criterion I am hoping for other releases in the coming months, Picnic At Hanging Rock, Les Vacances De Monsieur Hulot, Alexander Nevsky, Tokyo Story, In The Mood For Love,

I'd rather they do two or three good Andersons and leave the rest. But I also understand that they have a good relationship going and he sells lots of DVDs & BDs.
It's just 5 titles. It's not even remotely close to the amount of Godard or Kurosawa films Criterion has/had licensing for. I'm not saying this based off of your comments, but sometimes I don't think people understand how hard it is to acquire the licensing for some of these directors. Don't you think Criterion would have more Hitchcock, Kubrick, or even add a little Spielberg or Coppola in if they could? I certainly do.

It makes me chuckle when I hear people ask, "Why doesn't Criterion try to gain the rights to more 'high-profile' films?" They do! Just not as often, or as "high-profile" as the people who don't appreciate the efforts of Criterion would like.

Well then again, I don't know the internal politics that go on between Criterion and other studios.

Also the other filmmakers are more justified because they happen to have older material and are foreign films.

It is actually fairly simple. Years ago Wes Anderson was a young tough, who would steal the lunch money of tender souls to keep himself in corduroy jackets. Now, years later, these meek and oppressed have finally ventured out to congregate in this corner of the internet to seek their subtle revenge...
