And what doe anyone think of the odds that Criterion's first ever 4K title will be "West Side Story" , as a tie in with the Spielberg remake ? I can dream , can't I ....

They need to show more love for Milos Forman. Not sure how it’s possible for a guy who won Best Director twice to be underrated, but he is. Amadeus is getting a 4K restoration, so hopefully they get on that, and they really need to release Taking Off, which is a comedy masterpiece. Cuckoo’s Nest, Ragtime, and Larry Flynt are all great too.

They don't need to release anything. And I'm sure it'd be great if they released everyone of our favorite films but that doesn't mean they should or will.

I thought Beasts of No Nation was forgotten by everyone forever so I was absolutely stoked to see it getting a release

Or upgrade Loves of a Blonde, and re-acquire The Fireman's Ball.

(Before anyone comments, I do have the Second Run edition of the former, and Arrow edition of the latter. But there are some people who don't want, or don't know how, to order anything from outside the US.)

People are missing out! I love Second Run! With all their titles being Region Free. It also means you don’t have to worry about being Region A locked!

Feels like the first month in a long time without a female director. I do love that they have focused on that in the past year and hope they keep it up!

According to this article from Indiewire, Criterion is planning on releasing a Melvin Van Peebles boxset.

Quote:
In the effort to reconsider Black cinema in terms of cultural lineage, Criterion plans to re-release a restored “Sweetback,” as well as other Van Peebles films, including “Don’t Play Us Cheap,” “Watermelon Man,” and “Three-Day Pass,” along with son Mario’s 2003 film, “Baadasssss!”, starring as his father in a biopic about the making of “Sweetback.” All five films, plus Van Peebles’ mostly unseen shorts, will make up a single box set.

I was just reading about The Story of a Three-Day Pass (which I've never seen), and wondering if it would get a release.

Will pick up both Ashes and Diamonds and Beasts of No Nation (mostly to support their release of more Netflix titles, would love Buster Scruggs, Tramps, Meyerowitz Stories, Mudbound, Da 5 Bloods, and I'm Thinking of Ending Things in the future).

After Life would usually be up my alley but I recently sold my Still Walking Criterion to buy the BFI Kore-Eda set and that already includes After Life, so I'll be passing on this release.

No interest in the short documentary/theater/music thing, but hopefully some get enjoyment out of that release, I'm guessing theater buffs.

Solid month.

King of New York is in my top 10 favourite movies of all time. Might even be top 5, depending on my mood. Goodfellas and Casino are both in my top 20. I’d love Menace II Society to get a Criterion blu-ray release (I still have the Criterion laser disc) - great film. Looking forward to getting the Arrow 4K of True Romance, and I have many of the others in my collection too. I’ve seen (and mostly enjoyed) all the films you’ve listed, and I could add many more great films of that ilk from the period - Carlito’s Way, Heat, The Grifters, Night and the City, Internal Affairs, The Usual Suspects, Wild at Heart, with Pusher and Hard Eight (both 1996), Lost Highway and L.A. Confidential (both 1997) to follow shortly after. None of that precludes me from enjoying Deep Cover, which I’ve always thought was under-rated, and I’m happy that Criterion have thought it worthy of a place in the collection. It will fit right in with my upcoming purchases of Nightmare Alley, Pickup on South Street etc.
The more noir and neo-noir in the collection, the happier I’ll be, and my Ingmar Bergman’s Cinema, Essential Fellini and Complete Films of Agnes Varda box sets won’t be remotely devalued by Deep Cover’s presence. FWIW, I don’t much care for Armageddon or The Rock, but each to their own. Deep Cover is far better than both IMO - it’s a blast, Goldblum and Fishburne are both on top form. First day purchase for me.

I agree. But it feels like every crime movie post-1959 is considered “neo-noir” lol. My favorites are Pulp Fiction, Farewell My Lovely (1975), The Postman Always Rings Twice (1981), One False Move, LA Confidential, and Romeo Is Bleeding. I’ve heard Fargo being called neo-noir. I mean...why not?
