This straight white dude just pre-ordered the Melvin van Peebles box set.

Curious what else will be announced this week for September?

Gosh, I wish we could get away from all that racial stuff.

I'd gladly buy "The Trial" or "Peeping Tom". I'll also gladly buy Melvin van Peebles and hope for more Spike Lee, too.

Default R.I.P. Ned Beatty

Ned Beatty has died, aged 83. I will always admire his performances in Deliverance, Nashville, Network, Superman, and Toy Story 3.

Straight white guys watch movies because they like them, whether they have a political agenda or not.

Woke people like movies because they have an agenda, whether they're any good it's immaterial to them.

I wrote "woke sheet" thinking of the likes of Noah Baumbach et al, not of the few black directors whose work is chosen (mostly for the sad reason that there haven't been that many black people allowed to direct films in the past) but of course I get labelled as a white straight guy, most likely by other white straight guys, only liberals.

I wish Criterion would go back to their old standards.

Wait, are you trying to say Baumbach is "woke sheet"

A movie like Marriage Story which received a huge amount of critical acclaim as well as several industry awards including an Oscar for Laura Dern is well within Criterion's standards both "then" and now.

Richard Lester is still alive. He just stopped making films after Roy Kinnear died in an accident on Return of the Musketeers. It would be nice if they released the two earlier Musketeers movies before he dies.

I feel like he deserves a bit of a reappraisal. He seemed to get a negative directing reputation after the Superman sequels. But I was raised on Help! & A Hard Days Night. So I have a soft spot for him!

I remember watching the 3 Musketeers at the movie theater when I was 7. Let's just say I saw Raquel Welch and that was my awakening. LOL. I enjoy all of Lester's films save for one, Petulia. I just couldn't get into that one.

When does the Summer Barnes & Noble Criterion sale usually begin?

I'm debating whether or not to go in-store to pick up the Wong Kar-Wai box seeing that so many have had problems with the packaging arriving damaged in the mail. That being said, I really dislike the packaging design for this.

It would be a nice treat if they went ahead and made the rest of the September announcements today.

Though I don't expect it.

I have over $180 in gift cards in wait.

Most of it is in Amazon gift cards, so Amazon had better price match. Or else...

Amazon is matching Target's B2G1 sale, so you should probably look to see if you can get a better deal right now on some titles you're after. Most of the ttiles do average out to under $20 each, so I think it's most likely to be the better deal of the two. Plus, often when Amazon does match B&N, they'll add shipping to the price of the title, so a $19.99 title goes to like $22.99 or so.

Here's what I ordered from the Target B2G1 sale. With the deal, + my redcard, each title came out to a little over $15 each.

All for nothing because of Microsoft Rewards. And I probably ended up saving a few bucks by doing it in the 2for1 sale, too.

Again, NOICE.

And thanks again to MifuneFan.

Cold War was the only Criterion I got from the Amazon 2 for 1 sale. Rasputin The Mad Monk & Pandora and the Flying Dutchman. One could’ve been a Citerion and it sure if Rasputin would’ve been considered Criterion “worthy”.
