There’s been quite a few movies Criterion rereleased with really cheap and affordable Blu-Ray releases.

I totally understand that perspective and if I found it for a dollar I would probably be pretty happy! Similarly something like Fast Times I probably only paid £3 for that Blu-ray. But it's not like the old release goes away for the cheaper option, and I think more visibility of a film that gets forgotten among other catalogue releases is always good.

With Criterion having rights to the Handmade Films again, does this mean a reissue of LIFE OF BRIAN is possible or is that elsewhere?

It’s directed by a black woman starring two black people, so it’s gonna have detractors to it being added to the Criterion Collection.

It's a really solid movie.

True, I just find it hard to get excited about them and almost never 'upgrade' blu ray to blu ray. For me, it's like a wasted spot.

It’s an extremely popular film that has increased in critical stature since its release. Pathetic how narrow-minded some film aficionados are

This person is wrong. It's like if John Hughes made a love story. It's one of the best and most realistic depiction of teenage love I have ever seen (and just take my word when I say I've seen way too much of that).
It's been on my Wishlist for years I'm very excited for this release.

Some really good and interesting titles. Mona Lisa and The Damned are terrific films and Love & Basketball is also solid. Haven't seen Throw Down though. I'm also really digging the covers and that never happens.
I already have Mona Lisa from the Arrow boxset, but I'm happy that it's finally getting a region A release for those that want it.
As for The Damned, not that I agreed with that accusation, but hopefully it will finally shut up those people that were saying that Criterion was playing it too safe and was being too PC. I mean, this film is controversial to put it mildly and would not fly today.
It's also a shame that people continue to argue that Criterion is being too woke just because they are releasing a film that is directed by and starring black people. The movie is legitimately good and people should give it a chance instead of being an ignorant and racist troll.

Good to see the love for Love and Basketball as it is a guilty pleasure of mine. Guilty pleasure not because it is a bad movie, but I'm not big on romantic movies in general.
Although I'm bit surprised by the pick, it is good to have diversity, whether it's people or type of movie. Nothing wrong with having choices or different tastes.

The September announcements are a rousing success! I am most excited about the upgrade of Mona Lisa from the great Neil Jordan.

I'm quite intrigued by Throw Down and The Damned (never seen either).

The Love & Basketball release from the year 2000 is much welcomed.

The Melvin Van Peebles box set is pretty good too and should satisfy those who were upset over the lack of inclusivity of African American directors in the collection.

The Eureka THROWDOWN disc is worth getting for Frank Djeng's fantastic audio commentary alone. He also redid the English subtitles for Eureka.

It says in the news listing that there is an "Alternate Italian language audio track". Does that mean there's more than one audio track here (that are not with commentary)? I mean, is there a main audio track as well and is that in Italian too or is there an English translation of the movie?
I might be interested in this one, I can't seem that I ever caught it on TV.

I've only watched this in English, I'm assuming that is what the main track will be.

I've not seen it but understand there were different dubs. Looks like the release includes a German and Italian audio track - so my assumption would be it defaults to the German, and the Italian is the "alternate" version.

The Damned is excellent news, Love and Basketball is a really good film (which I'm glad to see join the collection) and I'm definitely in for Melvin Van Pebbles. Mona Lisa is the real gem here for me, that film is all types of amazing.

September is a very solid month for Criterion. I've never seen Throw Down but I've seen another Johnnie To film and I did like it, I think it was Drug War.

I have the 1980 Warner Book Box VHS release of The Damned. The first ever home release. Very early days of VHS. Looking forward to this upgrade

It was filmed direct sound in English. That should be the primary track. Then, they offer the Italian dub as an alternative. But all the main cast are speaking in their own voices in the English version, so that's the intended main version.

If the English soundtrack is not here, that would be a serious drawback, as that's the ACTUAL soundtrack.

This is my first time hearing about The Damned, but I'm in from that that cast alone.

I'm glad to see Love & Basketball in the collection. It's a fantastic movie.

Mona Lisa is always welcome. And much like Throw Down it's great to see these movies available to Region A audiences.

That Melvin Van Peebles boxset looks nice. I'm all for more Criterion sets.
