If you don't already have the DVD, yes. As someone who double-dipped, I am less enthusiastic about the upgrade in visual quality. It's still based on the same restoration and uptick in detail or improvement in grayscale/contrast is minimal. I would love if the film (assuming suitable elements exist) were to get a new scan/resto, it's one of my all-time favorite eerie movies.

I wonder if Criterion would ever release L.A. Confidential. It could certainly benefit from a new scan.

Then again, I’d much rather the parent studio release a 4K UHD.

Totally agree, although I'm still holding onto my DVD and waiting for Eureka to upgrade theirs, because I'm curious about the Guillermo del Toro audio commentary on the latter.

It's an excellent commentary, good enough for me to trade in my Criterion DVD set with a friend for his Eureka DVD. Guillermo Del Toro should be asked to give commentaries on every movie made, even if it means he can no longer find time to direct any

That would be great, but can't see a CC release happening with 2x sexual predators being such key players in this movie.

Who's "problematic" in L.A. Confidential besides Kevin Spacey?

Maybe he's getting it mixed up with The Usual Suspects.

You guys reckon we will see more John Waters on blu-ray from criterion?

Would love for them to put out Gregg Araki too...imagine a criterion blu-ray of Nowhere...

Yeah, oops.

Love both those movies, too bad we don't have good releases of either.

Last night, I started watching Christ Stopped at Eboli. Since it's conveniently broken up into 4 episodes, I aim to see it over the rest of the week. With respect to the first episode, the placid and sentiment lined reflective manner reminds me more of 3 Brothers by Rosi rather than the propulsive narrative of Salvatore Giuliani. I mostly remember Gian Maria Volonte from the parts he did in the Dollars movies, so it's a pleasant shock to see him as this mild-mannered gentleman in exile. He exudes a wonderful sensitivity and warmth and one can just watch him looking at the camera like he was staring into your eyes.
I don't know if it is a result of the large amount of material on the disc (almost 4 hours of the feature plus nearly 90 min of HD extras), but I can sometimes see chunky looking grain patterns against the sky, and the blacks are often so extreme as to be blocks of color. Don't know if these are encode related issues or inherent to the source.

Wonder if that's why someone just sold me their Criterion DVDs for less than $20 for the pair. Received this morning as well as a brand new copy of the dual format release of Red River with the novel I got from an amazon seller for $15, very happy with that little haul.

I certainly hope so. Criterion has run Pink Flamingos on the Channel, so that's possible.

I wonder if those new disks will have the commentary. Always thought the Dracula commentary was pretty nice.

Resnais' La Guerre Est Finie has been restored, too. I wonder if Criterion would be interested in releasing it if they can get the rights.

Especially when Criterion won't give us THE TRIAL yet!

The restoration for Powell and Pressburger's 'I Know Where I'm Going' is also being shown at Cannes this year, so there is a good chance that we can see a blu upgrade of this in the coming months.
