It looks like no international shipping again for the B&N sale. What are my fellow Canadians doing?

Obstructed View usually runs a similar (not identical) sale. It may not be quite as cheap, but it's often the best option overall

Hoping unobstructed views announces a sale tomorrow.

That being said, I did notice something slightly different on the b&n website that I hadn’t noticed before. It seems that I can buy items, pay for them and pick them up in store. If the border were open, I might consider that.

While looking for similar sales I ran across the target 20% off movies deal. I got Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex season 1 for 11.99 shipped. Huge upgrade from my bootleg dvd with no chapter or episode skips.

Amazon matched the price, but Target still was a better deal with the 20% off deal.

To me, it looks like Amazon is competing with everyone And that doesn’t seem to work so well.

I passed on the Godzilla set solely because I think the packaging is awful. Was waiting for a repackage but after reading your post I think it will be a long wait.

Godzilla will almost certainly never be repackaged.

What's wrong with Princess Bride's packaging anyway? Isn't it just a Digibook? The biggest complaint I heard about it is the back paper pulls off some of the artwork from the back cover. I think Criterion may have addressed that issue though. I also think it would have looked a lot nicer had the yellow color on the front been a gold foil instead, which is more representative of classic storybooks that they're trying to emulate. That would have probably cost too much though.

Amazon has helped me knock some stuff off the list so far.

These were all on my potential pick-ups list and happened to all be out of stock at my local B&N. Going on Saturday to hopefully get the rest of the list. Don't like the idea of getting them all from Amazon, it removes some of the excitement.

It will be tomorrow. B&N accidentally had their sale prices up for Criterions this morning. I placed an order for in store pick up, but have yet to receive a notice that they are indeed ready for pickup. I'm curious if the order will get cancelled and I will have to order everything all over again tomorrow. Anyone else order for in store pickup this morning?

Depending on how seriously you feel about packaging, it might be worth ordering the set anyway, then putting the discs in their own blu-ray cases and printing out your own cover art.

In fact, even though the movies are not sold separately, it looks like the Criterion website actually still has a unique product page for each movie, with unique artwork (and fairly high-resolution artwork at that). You could conceivably print that artwork out to use for covers.

I think there are a few options hidden in the Custom Cover Art thread, as well.

Same situation. I never got a pick up notice either. Figured I call the store when I get off work to see if I can come get the order, or if they'll make me wait until tomorrow.

I got my two pickup notices a couple of hours ago. I can't make it to the store until Sunday, but I could get it now if I really wanted to.

Interesting. Will give my store a call and see what the deal is. Probably something that was supposedly in stock, but wasn't.

Was that the case last year? I could’ve sworn I somehow got an order through… I may just try my luck on Amazon.com if so. I’ve never really enjoyed ordering from Unobstructed View. They take forever to ship and items often turn out to be on backorder in my experience. The company head has also expressed some views I don’t entirely agree with but that’s neither here nor there.

Picked up The Elephant Man and The Irishman from Amazon. Both under $20.

Just back from one of my local stores. There was a 'hiccup" in the system which started the sale a day early online. Wouldn't honour the 50% discount, but were happy to put my picks aside until the weekend - which was fine by me.

I stopped in my local Barnes and Noble this afternoon and they gave me the sale price a day early and she also gave me my Barnes and Noble membership 10% extra off. She said they could give me the extra 10% today only since the sale price wasn't in their system until tomorrow. So it worked out in my favor going in early. She put the 19.99 in manually. Came to 17.99 a disc. So happy! Picked up:

Nice one!

And good to see B&N stores are still as inconsistent as they ever were...

Haha, so true. I have two Barnes and Nobles near me and this one is usually the stricter one with sales. I wondered if they might have a new manager because last year they wouldn't give me the price early, but the other Barnes and Noble did. I wish this would have happened last sale with my extra 10% when I bought the Varda box set there, but oh well.. I'm happy.
