His news about Ran getting a 4K Steelbook from BB was real, it was confirmed by the artist today.

Here's the exchange from July 8th, where yolo confirms Citizen Kane:

Yolo posted early today he had no news of a CK CC UHD. Shortly after that he that shall not be named backtracked on twitter.

I guess time will tell, but I just don't see any reason for Criterion to release Citizen Kane unless it's a UHD. Now whether GG has any legit info about that release I have no idea, a lot of his stuff is BS, but every now and then he does have real info.

The “real info” he has is just whatever he read on here or Reddit.

As I mentioned, that's not always the case. He seems to have been the only source for the Ran 4K Steelbook (unless someone can point me to an older source). I'm not one to buy in to his nonsense, nor what Dawn of the Discs shamelessly does either, but I don't think they get every bit of info from other places. They clearly do have some insider info too.

I didn't see a reason for All About Eve being re-released either haha. Sometimes CC is just funny that way. I do have a hard time believing WB would license that title out. Just my gut feeling is all.

I know, it's definitely hard to believe. It's either we take yolo at his word, or we don't with that one. There was a dude "revealing" all kinds of insider info about Arrow's upcoming Shaw Bros. release, and he was called out on it by Arrow directly (and an artist) and it turned out to be all BS. I don't know why some people get off on doing shit like that. I don't think yolo is doing that here though.

Edit: I just remembered, yolo actually PM'd a mod at criterion forums to show his proof, and they said it looked legit, so I guess it is happening, the only question is whether it'll be UHD or not.

Let me clear my comment up. I believe it's licensed to CC. What I meant was the UHD rights specifically.

would it really be likely that they'd re-release a film on UHD as opposed to one they'd never released before? that'd be a bit of a disappointment to me.

honestly i hope this is either eyes wide shut or boogie nights.

Introducing a new 4K digital master restored on a 1080p disc of a movie that already has a 4K scan on a blu-ray disc.

Or just…leave it out of the collection altogether… They’ve done fine without it for thirty or so years.

[Show spoiler]Warners can and should do the 4K release. They’ve always treated it right and they’ll do it justice again. But having Citizen Kane (re-)join the Criterion Collection in 2021? It’s already spent decades as one of the most famous (and overrated) movies ever. Criterion picking it up would be highkey obnoxious and unnecessary with or without 4K. It’d be a smart business move (you’ll all buy it) but a completely unimaginative, undermining one.

I've been curious why Citizen Kane talk seemed to be largely muted this year given that its 80th anniversary is less than two months away. If it turns out to be Criterion's first UHD, then all the silence would make sense.

F for Fake is being screened at cannes this year with a new 4K master. The current CC release is a dated master.

Always a possibility of an Orson Welles BD Boxset.
