HMV currently have a 20% off going about for a number of Criterion titles. All the talk of them going 4K is exciting but also annoying as, if they ever re-released some of the titles they've already got on Blu-ray and that have had 4K scans before, I'd rather not double dip; I'm fine with waiting out for a while. I'm currently interested in either possibly getting the Apu trilogy or Orson Welles' Othello, but of course both had 4K scans. I doubt anyone knows for certain obviously, but what would you folks recommend? Is there any likelihood that some time soon we should expect any sort of release not just with those titles but other big previous titles in that format?

I order online a lot and get shipments from those and other services. Sometimes UPS hands it off to USPS for the final delivery. It’s been this way at least as long as the pandemic, so I’ve just learned that not much is surprising anymore.

The following titles, do you think that they should make their Blu-ray debut in US (if not in 4K) by Criterion or by other company?
The Boy Who Could Fly (1986) The Secret Garden (1993) A Little Princess (1995) Sabrina (1995) The First Wives Club (1996) Milk Money (1994) Also do you think that the following titles that are already available on Blu-ray by other companies, but their picture is decent, but they could look better, should be restored by Criterion or by other companies? Network (1976) Strange Days (1995) Alien Nation (1988) The Forgotten (2004) Interview with the Vampire (1994) Amadeus (1984) I would appreciate it a lot if you could answer me those two questions and to hear different opinions. |

Network and Strange Days would be intensely appropriate for Criterion. Amadeus too, but it’s probably fine where it is. |

Thank you very much. But what about the other titles?

Do you really need other people to tell you that "Milk Money" and "The First Wives Club" are never ever going to get released by Criterion? There's absolutely no chance of that ever happening. You might as well ask if they are going to release your wedding video.

I wonder if Criterion has plans to do individual releases of some of the Fellini titles that had DVD releases? Stuff like La Strada, Nights of Cabiria, Juliet of the Spirits, I vitelloni, and Variety Lights. They released some titles from the Bergman set after that was released, so I figured they'd do the same here, but maybe since its fewer films, there's less incentive to do that. I mean, if they did releases of all the titles that previously got a standalone release, there wouldn't be much left in the box set. Still, I could see them doing at least La Strada, and Nights of Cabiria (assuming they're allowed to do so).

Is the iTunes edition of Detour really the Criterion version? iTunes say the studio isn't Criterion, but Producers Releasing Corporation. I also noticed that Elevator to the Gallows, The Naked City, and Le Samourai also don't have Criterion as the studio.
