Don't worry. I have the same problem. When I have friends over I have to always put on the newest blockbuster. I tried to put on an older and classier movie once and it was not well received...

Dissapointed.
They just shipped "House" and "Charade". Only have "Paths of Glory" on backorder. I never had a cancelled order from them...

On the topic of age and movie taste...

To nerdy movie fans like us it seems incredulous that people wouldn't enjoy b&w/foreign/silent/etc films. However, we are merely following our passion. We enjoy doing the leg-work it takes to become educated on film history and the classics. We make the time to endlessly hunt for good deals or information on a blu-ray release of our favorite classic. I mean, thank God for the internet, right?

To us it feels like second nature--like breathing. To most of the world, that is a lot of time they do not have. We have the time because we make the time. Our passions (sadly) rarely line up with real life responsibility--work, school, or family. So we have to make the time for our passions.

So the person who spends their passion time watching, thinking about, and investigating movies looks down upon the person whose passion is music. The person who is passionate about music and makes free time in their life to listen to, think about, and investigate music looks down upon the person whose passion is cooking. And the person who is passionate about cooking really doesn't understand the hoopla about movies. And so it goes...

I consider myself rather on the fringes of all this--and I think a fair number of people are the same way. While being passionate about movies, yes, in the larger picture I'm really just a fan of The Arts. My interests span the swath of human creativity. It is a cruel life, in many ways, as few people have the time and ability to follow all of The Arts they way they'd like...

Default Happy Thanksgiving!!! :)

The Thanksgiving Cinema marathon begins...

I just finsihed Modern Times, which I haven't seen again in it's totality for a few years...on the WB/MK2 DVD.

Wow! They did a great job on a very good quality print of the film. I just started the supplemental material and I'm very impressed so far. I would have chosen another Chaplin film myself as a first release on CC blu...but this was just great to see again and having it look the way a film of this age is supposed to look.

I'm saving the David Robinson commentary for a special time over the course of the weekend.

Well...back to vegging out! See ya later!

A lot of people groan, and I can't justify the terrible last 30 minutes or so, but this release is pretty damn great. For $10 it really is a great deal.

I just woke up to an email from B&N stating that they shipped my BBS set yesterday! The sad part is UPS is say that it won't be delivered until next Wednesday.

Prime is trending toward USPS shipping, and indeed 2 days is when it arrived in town. Thing is, my mailbox isn't at my house, and even worse, the delivery person seems to just about always leave notes to pick up packages at the post office. So, like today, if I get sidetracked and don't get to my mailbox early enough, so much for "2 days", as it's then too late to go to the post office and pick up the package. UPS portion of that same (split) order arrived (late) this afternoon, at my door, in a for real "2 days".

Guess it's time to *****. That's b*i*t*c*h.
I was right. No credits. Just a:

I'm forwarding your feedback about USPS to our shipping department--I know they'll want to hear about your experience.

We're aware that our choice of delivery services reflects on our business as a whole, and we appreciate your feedback.

So, 4 days later I'll be driving to the post office, standing in line for a while and getting my package that should have been delivered to my house. An hour out of my life I'll never get back, and a gallon of gas to boot.

Prime is becoming less and less Prime to me.

Age may not be a factor in it. My buddy is 50 and the only way I could ever make him watch a Criterion Collection movie would be if I tied him up and use toothpick to keep his eyes open. He can't watch anything that as subtitles, if it's not dub he won't watch it.

Wow wow, hold on there for a second man.
I might just be starting to build my Criterion collection, but trust me, I have seen so many old and "classic" movies that its harrd to imagine (of course mostly the good ones, most of which will never make it to Criterion).

Majority is the way you described, but not everyone. I am sure there are still some people of even my age (around 21) that still appreciate older movies. I am sure there will always be this community who will always apprecaite great "classics".

What do you mean by "mostly the good ones, which will never make it to Criterion"? Are you talking about mainstream classics like Casablanca, Wizard of Oz? I think these types of classics are easy enough to watch that a person of any age can get into it even if they don't necessarily prefer old movies.

You'd be more successful calling and talking to a real person. FYI.

I dont think that teenagers/young people watch even mainstream classics like the Wizard Of Oz anymore, although I didnt mean them only.

I'm 18. I visit here, but don't post as often as many of the regulars here. Are you in school/Where are you going to school? I go to a place with a large film program, so meeting people that are into stuff out of the mainstream is easy here.

I was wondering if anyone had problems playing any part of their Criterion blu's? I'm at my parents house for the holiday weekend, and my fathers bluray player stopped playing my copy of Yojimbo at chapter 17. I tried to fast forward chapters, bu it won't play past this chapter. Has anyone ever had these problems, or am I a rare case? Any suggestions?

Thanks.
