I like the Kane cover. Previous versions I never really liked.

Still hoping a John Woo boxset is in the works. Outside of a Kurosawa or Gosha boxset, that's what I want to see happen from Criterion.

Same. It’s simple, strong and iconic.

The John Woo set is high on my list, just his 1986-1992 catalogue. We’ve already seen a lot of Hong Kong movies released, so it’s possible

My #1 H.K. want from Criterion would be a "Chinese Ghost Story" trilogy set.

Once Upon a Time in China is probably it in terms of boxsets for the rest of the year.

It occurred to me that what I really want on a Criterion UHD is Portrait of a Lady on Fire. Make it happen John!

You are not kidding. Those previous blu-ray releases are DVD quality. And poorly done DVDs at that.

At least dude doesn’t rate classic films like Bringing Up Baby and The Great Escape as 3.5 out of 5 for how good the movie is. They promote classic releases over there. The reviewer here will probably say Kane is 3.5 and is a mediocre film.

I really think that Children of Men would make an all time great Criterion release.

Universal’s not gonna do nuthin with it.

I watched it last night for the 6th or 7th time.

…it hurt just as much as it did the first time.

I feel like also the 4K is a pretty big announcement for them.

I second this. The movie looks stunning on a Blu-ray, but it would highly benefit from HDR/Dolby Vision.

The compression for Portrait of a Lady on Fire was much worse than most of the Criterions I own and hope that if they ever do a 4K, they can get rid of that or at least make it more cleaner and filmic (Although it’s a digital film so I guess that’s not the exact word I was looking for).

I am just so pleased with what they are doing.
(And yes, I grumbled too, about those silly boxes like Wong Kar Wai's and Fellini's...)
Totally going their own way.

Read on another thread how absolutely gallant their customer support is,
great Blu Ray's through the years after brilliant dvd's in the past (for me; I bought my first Criterion 20 years ago), and now they kick of with these UHD's.

Brilliant.
I don't care much for one out of these 5 UHD's, but I'm gonna get 'm anyway.

To be clear, only Citizen Kane, Menace II Society, and Mulholland Dr. are being released as 4K from the November slate, not La Strada or the Once Upon a Time in China set. In the coming month(s), Criterion has also announced that The Red Shoes, The Piano, and A Hard Day's Night will also be released on 4K.
