I would assume it's because The Servant is probably the more well known Losey title. Though I'm just basing this off of the amount of people who have logged as being watched on iMDB and Letterboxd, so I could wrong about that.

Yeah, it is better known, and I'm sure that's their reasoning, but they're both critically acclaimed classics, and I do think the same people that are buying Losey's Servant on UHD, would also buy Mr. Klein as well.

Mr. Klein is not as visually interesting a film as The Servant. Douglas Slocombe’s stunning B&W work is a much greater draw for 4K than Klein’s muted and depressing colour cinematography.

Not to say that I think Klein’s cinematography is in any way inferior, it suits the film perfectly, it’s just not the type of cinematography that I’d imagine anyone would be terribly excited to see how it’d look in 4K HDR.

And also don’t forget that market for English language movie is bigger that for French one. I think they’ll test the waters with servant, and than release klein next year.

Janus just tweeted about a new 4K restoration of Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s Cure. Could we be getting a UHD?!!!! https://www.ifccenter.com/films/cure/

Edit: Janus’ site says “blu-ray”, so we are definitely getting it in 2k at least.

I just got the Eureka release today (after a long time of procrastinating) so a Criterion announcement soon would make sense

Blu-ray on the website should refer to what’s sent to a theater if they can’t handle a DCP, rather than a commercial release.

With Janus screening this in theaters, it almost certainly means a physical release is coming.

About time.

On a different note, I do hope The Servant gets a release, Blu-ray or 4K. The movie is hard to find and nearly impossible to find (For a good price) on DVD in the US. It's one of the greatest British films of the 60s and one that reminds me a lot of Parasite and the way both films play like a house thriller (Also being a social commentary often showing characters living in a certain floor to represent their class level with the highest being the richest and most powerful under the roof).

I paid a premium last year, to get the original SC release--and it is hard to find.
The packaging is awful. The spindle, which was glued to the hardcover case came off and I had to house the disc in a paper sleeve.

I love this film and would be happy just to see a region A release.

Looks like a metallic treatment. Interested to see it in person.

Seriously, totally inoffensive cover that used the original poster art with a metallic sheen. Of any Criterion released in the past ~year, this would be one of my last guesses for a cover change. Whatever.

I suspect strongly this one isn’t Criterion’s choice, it’s so completely out of their design wheelhouse. I wonder if Sandler leaned on them for the warm fuzzy.

Would blow my mind for Sandler to take issue with them using what he (assumedly?) previously approved for the film's worldwide release

I don't even really think stars approve movie posters, though there may be plenty of agent phone calls arguing for changes etc. I know generic use of image / name on posters is covered in contracts.

It didn't have to be Sandler. There's a chain of command, and someone higher up may have directed the change. Then again it could have been Criterion. Who knows?
