Movies often get made by people that have done some bad things. Some movies get made by despicable directors or actors. A lot of movies, especially Hollywood, were made under the influence of a mountain of coke (Batman and Robin?).

Sometimes you have to separate the artists from the art. Within reason of course.

I miss the artist that did the wacky drawings.

So do I. But hoping they’ll find another artist to continue the tradition.

And way too often you get bad movies made by good people

The trailer for the new Paul Thomas Anderson movie leaked, but it’s bad quality. It looks a lot like Boogie Nights, which is disappointing, because I thought PTA has finally left behind trying to copy Altman/Scorsese and embraced a sloooooow Kubrick style of filmmaking. He’s gotta leave that punk rock phase behind and go full Ozu. Leave the punk rock for the kiddies.

Looks pretty good to me. I don't follow your "he shouldn't copy these two legendary directors, but he should copy these two legendery directors" argument.

First, it’s just an advance trailer and it reveals little of how the movie will present itself. Second, the only similarity I see is that it’s set in the 70s. That cast looks fab to me. Also, yay Haim!

Haven't watched the trailer, but every time I see the title I'm grossed out. At no point should the words licorice and pizza be next to each other. Based on that alone I know this movie will suck, and if you're still reading this, I only said that last part to partake in this hot take parley.

I haven't seen the trailer for this, but for some reason this project hasn't been something I can get excited about even from the start. But, of course, I'll be there opening weekend.

I have more faith in PTA than any active director. Maybe not hot, but that’s my take.

Apart from Bong and Kore-eda, I don't disagree.

With the impending release of Mulholland Drive on 4K, I thought others might also be interested to know that Nautilus in Belgium is releasing a poster for the film in October, in conjunction with Mondo here in the US:

Make no mistake, I think he’s the best director in the world today. Other favorites are Ramsay, Park Chan wook, the Coens, and Tarantino.

really? I thought Criterion had the rights to Burn! since 2008 possibly earlier or maybe a little later but definitely before the Last Tango controversy blew up and they just upgraded The Fugitive Kind last year so I dunno

It should be noted that it is, in fact, a name that’s appeared in not only a great film, but one in the Criterion Collection :

One title from CC's catalogue that I'd wish they'd upgrade to BD is Ermanno Olmi's "Ill Posto".

Not holding my breath, because it's a bit out of fashion now, even for CC.

There are also three documentaries that I'd wish a brand would pick which are 'The Exiles' from 1961, "Araya'(think KL has this one), and "Killer of Sheep"(this one will definitely find it's way to a release somewhere at somepoint).
