I’ll pose this to you, dr727, but I welcome input from anyone who feels like contributing: what are your impressions of Je Tu Il Elle? I’ve seen Jeanne Dielman on multiple occasions, but that is the only feature of hers I’ve had the opportunity to watch. I have her first film on my DVR.
Chantal’s slow pacing in it didn’t bother me in the slightest, as it is meant to underscore the monotony of Jeanne’s life, and the tediousness of her daily tasks. That pacing, the focusing on the mundane, was quite effective, so a similar pacing in what is her first film wouldn’t be off-putting to me. |

Criterion seems to be the only company making deals with the mouse right now. Even as far as getting Fox titles for Criterion Channel and issuing UK editions. Both Unfaithfully Yours and Thieves' Highway are the last remaining unupgraded Fox titles and both have 4K restorations on the shelf.

They really need to put Written on the Wind out on blu-ray and I'm really surprised it's taken this long. It's widely regarded as being one of Douglas Sirk's greatest films (and my personal favourite of his). At this point, it's one of the few Sirk films left to hit blu-ray. I thought it wasn't far off when they released All That Heaven Allows but that was now seven years ago.
Would also love to see Trouble in Paradise get the blu-ray treatment. ~Matt |

However, someone uploaded the full interview on YouTube Don't remember if there was any spoilers with the movies Nakadai mentions just a heads-up for those who haven't seen the Nakadai films released by Criterion so far (Kobayashi, Kurosawa, Naruse, Okamoto, and Teshigahara). |

Hey, I've been going through stacks of hundreds of ancient DVDs here the last few days (from my mom's house) and as I've created a spreadsheet listing the value for the DVDs (some are as old as nearly 25 years ago), I discovered an odd comedy film that surprisingly does not yet have a blu-ray release. Yet this movie contained an Oscar-nominated performance by the legendary Goldie Hawn. The film is called Private Benjamin. Perhaps Criterion should look into adding this to their collection? It's a fish out of water comedy but also is a charming tale that is lightly feminist in nature. I would think this is a perfect title to add into the collection (plus Albert Brooks and Harry Dean Stanton are in the film too).

Wonder if any of CC's Eclipse series would get a BD release.
I'd love to upgrade the Eclipse Series 14: Rossellini's History Films - Renaissance and Enlightment. It includes Blase Pascal, Cartesius, and The Age of Medici. Doubt this set would get upgraded(because 10 other people and I would be the only ones getting it) but some others would be profitable I'm sure. |
