Popped in my House disc only to find that around 1hr 12min in, everything glitches out and can't proceed on multiple players. Disc is totally clean and only has one very small scratch. Worth bothering Criterion to see if they'd replace it?

Yes, definitely contact mulvaney@criterion.com and see if they will offer a replacement.

Criterion has some of the best customer service around (maybe the best from any boutique label). I'm sure they'll get you sorted, especially for something like this.

Criterion could and should do right by Sunrise. In terms of supplemental material the existing Blu-rays fall short, and if any movie deserves to be in the Collection it’s that one.

Anyone know why some movies have those weird balls of hair in the corners of the picture. This one moved a little too, and was in a different place in the next shot. Is it something that discharges from the camera or what?

It's Bergman's Port of Call. I think there was one in High Art (1998), but I didn't keep the screenshot.

Agreed except I might send an email (even a CC) to orders@criterion.com.

I don't know why, but sometimes the mulvaney email got lost, delayed, ignored sometimes while the orders email almost always get quick answers

Thanks for letting me know. I hit up the mulvaney address, and if I hear nothing for a bit I'll just try the other. Not a particularly time sensitive issue, anyway

does anyone know which store in the US ships blu-rays in actual cardboard boxes and not those flimsy bubble-wrap envelopes?

I want to import a few digipack Criterions and Amazon won't do

From personal ordering experience: Vinegar Syndrome (no help with Criterion though), Grindhouse, Diabolik, & OrbitDVD.

So I just saw this. https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Le-Ce...7/#Screenshots

I'm assuming when Criterion reissues this it will use this color grade. Can't say I'm the biggest fan, so I'm glad I have the old release. Still, had no idea this was getting a new color grade.

Yeah, I have the version that I assume on the Essential Melville set is the better version:

So, I probably will pass on it if Criterion re-releases it with the same color grade that was used on the Studiocanal 4K

Yet this movie contained an Oscar-nominated performance by the legendary Goldie Hawn. The film is called Private Benjamin. Perhaps Criterion should look into adding this to their collection? It's a fish out of water comedy but also is a charming tale that is lightly feminist in nature. I would think this is a perfect title to add into the collection (plus Albert Brooks and Harry Dean Stanton are in the film too).

There are a handful of gems starring Goldie that are still not on blu, unfortunately.

As you said Private Benjamin is M.I.A. Wildcats just came out --finally.

And two of her best films - both with Chevy Chase and both absolutely excellent comedies - are nowhere to be found: Foul Play and Seems Like Old Times.

First Wives Club - yes - HILARIOUS is also missing.

At least we have Overboard which I could watch over and over.

I just looked at her IMDB page and didn't realize she was in so few films in her career.

Question is will Criterion release Le Cercle Rouge sometime in the future or is it owned by a different company? I was guessing that it was gonna be released earlier this year but that's far from the case. Really do hope Criterion releases it some time soon, although I'm guessing it's gonna be on 4K UHD since it already has a 4K UHD release. I'd be down for the older Blu-ray transfer with a re-release instead to be honest, but not everything can come true. Really want to know what is going on with the case for this film right now in the US.

The KL Insider has said it is not with them, so the assumption is that it's with Criterion.

What issues? This site gave the video a 4/5, which by MC standards is pretty great. The audio is a lossless track, and the reviewer didn't really mention any issues with the it, just stating it's a very dialogue-heavy film and the track supports that centrally. The movie would not have sold well on its own.
