Interesting -- I can't remember ever seeing it, but I don't think B&N has a preorder correction.

I'd suggest waiting until the sale starts, then there's not question -- if the sale truly is starting Friday then not really that much of a rush now

I did run across this so it's at least possible, but I'm wondering if this page is an old page since I can't find it directly on the currect site -- only by Google. I'm also not seeing a label on any of the Movies mentioning a Preorder Guarantee.

Pre-Order Pricing Guarantee
BN.com's price for pre-released items can change between the time an item is listed for sale and the time it is made available for delivery. When you pre-order an item eligible for a Pricing Guarantee, if the price we charge when we send it to you is not the lowest price offered by BN.com between the time you placed your order and the end of the day of the publication date, the difference between your order price and the lowest price by the end of the publication date will be automatically refunded to your account, usually within 24-48 hours following the publication date.

Terms and Conditions:

This Pricing Guarantee applies only to qualifying items displaying the offer message on their product detail pages. Items that do not display the offer message do not qualify, regardless of the nature of the items.
Pricing Guarantees are only valid on qualifying items displayed on BN.com and are not valid on purchases made from third parties accessible from the BN.com website (e.g., used books, textbooks etc.). Pricing Guarantees are not valid at Barnes & Noble College bookstores or websites.
Pricing Guarantee applies only to pre-released qualifying items. It does not apply to items that have already been released.
If you did not use a credit card to pay for your order, please contact Customer Service.
Applies only to orders placed after September 1, 2020.

Just got my Essential Fellini set in (although I was disappointed to see that they didn't ship it in special packaging, just threw it in a big box with the rest of my stuff, so my advice is order it separately). I've seen a few of his films before (8 1/2, Nights of Cabiria, and Amarcord), and I've connected to them all on different wavelengths, though Amarcord I initially got the least out of. I intend to go through it chronologically the way I did with the Bergman set, and I expect I'm better prepared for his surrealist touches since I first watched Amarcord, so I think this should be a rewarding experience.

I adore his later films much more—and revisit frequently. (I also, of course, appreciate his earlier works and understand their importance.) That said, I’m routinely shocked that my absolutely head-over-heels discovery experiences are always followed by reading online reviews complaining of no plot, confusing logic, “style over substance”, confusing dialogue, etc. I understand that all of that is less broadly appreciated but I’m often so enchanted by the film that I don’t see it on those terms.

TL;DR Non-traditionalist agrees!

Wow, you just perfectly described my thoughts on the set thus far. Sorry.

I'm doing that exact same thing right now with the Agnes Varda set, and it's a great experience. Some of the films are just awful, but most are OK to fantastic, and I'm really liking the way there's a consistent core of her attitude, images, and themes that evolves but still stay consistent. Makes me want to do that with other box sets. Wong Kar Wai, you're next.

I'm not giving up on Fellini. Tonight, in the Man Cave, I Vitelloni. I have no idea what this movie is about or who's in it, so I'm not going in with any expectations. I'll post later what I think.

Do you mean B&N sale? It's supposed to be starting soon.

Haven't heard confirmation yet, but:

I'm not sure if this is from one of the older reddit posters, but there are 1 or 2 employees that post there and have always been on top of the rumors

Those kind of reviews, along with the word pretentious, almost guarantees I'm also going to adore the film. I just bought Altman's 3 Women (surreal and pretty much plot-less) and a few months ago Resnais' Last Year at Marienbad (surreal, plot-less) and the Criterion edition of Tarkovsky's Mirror (surreal, plot...ah, you get the point).

I think those of us who love art-house films tend to not need plots and the dialogue that comes with it because the images tell the story, like silent films. I've never had a problem understanding the Fellini films after 1960, in fact that's my favorite period of his, where he definitely found his style.

This one, IMO, was better. It was certainly easier to follow. And, in certain ways, understandable. But watching it I realized the main problem I have had with Fellini's films. There's never a main character I am rooting for.

In every movie I need to somehow relate and have a character or characters I am rooting for. With Fellini's films I can't find that character. Oh, sure, there might be a minor character I have sympathy for but, for the most part, I either don't like or don't care about the main characters. And that, my friends, is the problem I have with these films.

But, I'll keep watching the films in the set. I'm not going to give up.

If you don'r root for Giuletta Masina in Nights of Cabiria, you have no heart. I'm not a big Fellini fan either, but that movie gets me. Every time.

Actually, I did see that one back in August on the Criterion Channel. I liked it and, yes, I was rooting for her. I forgot about that one.

BN Criterion sale runs from October 29 to November 29 according the checkout person I spoke with today. She offered the info to me unsolicited while I was buying a couple 50% off Arrow titles. Glad I resisted the recent Criterion.com sale as my local BN have all the titles I'm interested in.

Totally agree with all of this! And yes, Fellini had a strong through-line and his work evolved to its ultimate form (IMO). 3 Women is in my top 10! As is Celine & Julie Go Boating and several other films in this realm. Marienbad is a masterpiece.

As an aside: I think no director hybridized these cinematic polar opposites as well as Takeshi Kitano.

I like to collaborate this same information. I was shopping for an Arrow Video title today, and the cashier in the movies section said that the Criterion sale starts this Friday, October 29.

Has anyone seen any B&N coupons that might be able to be used during the sale? Kind of like the first day of the last sale. I think that one was 10 or 15% off a single purchase.
