I’m not burning or boycotting anything. But I don’t think Criterion is going to be very excited by their sales numbers for anything that doesn’t ever reach a 50% off list promotion. Even 30% off is going to keep me mostly sidelined.

I can't really buy that Criterion would do that. They specifically drop these 4Ks during the sale month knowing they're gonna be hot commodities just to say "nah they're not included in the sale." I'd think they could've just pushed them to December or January if they didn't want them to be part of the sale

They should allow some kind of discount even if its 20 or 30 percent like some of the Amazon pre-orders. Because even if its a smaller discount, they'll get some "yeah, why not" eyeballs from those making big purchases anyway. But, also, BN doesn't have a lot of discounts on their movies outside of various sales/membership with MSRP being the price for many of their movies. And THAT price is going to be too high, cause it is.

If it has nothing to do with Criterion and its just a BN thing, well. . . I mean, I worked for them for years. I know that they are a company that shoots themselves in the foot regularly.

The UHDs weren't part of Criterion's own flash sale, so why is it surprising they wouldn't be part of B&N's sale? I'm sure the next 50% off flash sale Criterion does will include them.

They weren't included because Criterion flash sales are only for in-stock items, not pre-orders. They weren't included because they haven't been released yet.

Why are you assuming not being on sale the month they release is the same as the UHDs never going on sale ever?

Has anybody contacted Barnes & Noble or someone on the forum affiliated with them to check and see if this bit of information is true?

Why are some people holding out for the B&N sale when they could have purchased the same stuff during the flash sale (and earned points)? Only thing that's different is the sale's duration, which may affect some people's ability to participate in Criterion's own sale.

I am European, so I am not familiar with B&N.
There's one other advantage to the B&N sale that no one has mentioned. The ability to go into a physical store, browse, and walk out with a disc. Browsing online is not the same. There are times I walked into a B&N thinking I wanted one disc, but changed my mind before I got to the check-out. Plus, I get to watch the disc when I get home. I don't have to wait a week for the disc to arrive.

Is The Incredible Shrinking Man one of Criterion's most stacked disc for extras in a long time? Wonderful commentary by Weaver as per usual, but the Dante interview, the music and VFX featurettes, old Arnold interviews are all great, but the 50 minute doc on Arnold is exceptional!

One of my top discs of the year, and I didn't yet mention to the PQ!

How far back are we going? Mirror (July), Memories of Murder (April) and Celine and Julie Go Boating (February) are similarly stacked. I own all three and that's why they immediately come to mind.

I assume nothing. Simply stating my position in the event the sales strategy for Criterion’s line of UHD is less aggressive than what they have offered in the past.

Since they got Citizen Kane, I wonder if King Kong would also be on the table for a Criterion 4k. It would be nice to get that laserdisc commentary and the film reunited again.

It would be nice if anyone would bring it back into print, though.

The surviving elements are far from ideal. It really shows its age, and the image is often quite soft.
