People have been complaining/begging Criterion for years to release films on 4K and when they finally do they won't buy them unless they are 50% off right out of the gate.

I for one will give Criterion time before they include them in these sales.

Easier just to wait 11 hours

Two people have already gotten confirmation that 4K is excluded.

It's possible going to 4K was a large initial investment for Criterion, and selling them at half-off on day one would hurt them financially. Or perhaps they want to get a more accurate gauge of the demand for the format, independent of any sales. Of course, if either of those happen to be the case, they could have easily just started their 4K line in December instead. Then we wouldn't know their stance on discounts until February at the earliest.

I have a UHD player (OPPO), but the HDTV it's connected to is a Panasonic Plasma (1080p). I was thinking I might upgrade to a 4K LG OLED, but with the apparent pricing scheme on these Criterion 4K releases I won't even consider 4K releases at this time.

Yes, I realize that there are many 4K releases by other studios. In fact, I already have a few. I'm just not in any rush to dump my Panny.

BTW, we have other 4K screens in the house, but none are OLED and none compare to my Panny Plasma.

Default UHD BN Sale

The only way excluding the 4k titles from the BN sale makes sense to me is if they are not going to carry them in stores and either they decided to not include them as a result or Criterion told them that if that are not in stores they are not part of the sale.

Just my thoughts

Want to add at my local Barnes & Noble they carry very few if any 4k discs

to get paranoid for a second. What if this is a way to hurt the 4k sales, and to say they aren't worth itbecasue they aren't selling, and then stop making them?

Kane and Mulholland Dr will be mine - sale or no sale. I was calling for UHD for the longest time so I'll be there to support it.

Yeah, I’m sure Criterion have no interest in making a profit and have only released UHD for the long con to their customers.

I wouldn't think so. They could have always just avoided it like they had been for the last few years.

If they're not included in the sale so be it. Just got my 50.00 gift from the point from their last flash sale. At least covers Kane. I'll pick up Mulholland Drive and Menace. Will pass on Gems.

I'll likely wait till CC next flash sale though before picking up anymore. If they're not a part of that sale I'm going to have to be really picky on what titles get priority.

A few of the prices are changing -- maybe 25% just scanning a couple pages

Mulholland Drive 4K is 50% off so there's hope
