I have neither BN membership nor Prime. My allegiance is bought by good prices and quality service. I don't buy from B&N much, since they fact I have to pay tax adds 10% to every transaction, and outside of big sales and coupons, I don't see many competitive prices.

At the moment, I am arguing with customer service because they are refusing to honor the 10% AAA discount on an order I already placed. They retroactively removed it, and when I asked them to fix it, they shipped my package 2 weeks earlier than estimated. Mysteriously, it cannot be tracked.

Now they won't even answer a single email. This is the kind of service I associate with B&N, because this is the kind of service they give me. The only time it is worth is when I am saving 50%.

It is nothing personal.

I have both. A year free of prime for being a college student and a 2 month free B&N membership. Ill cancel both before I have to pay any money for them.

Not a single dent, bend, bow, crease, scratch, anything.
Another, typical, perfect item from B&N.
I was actually pretty shocked, as mine arrived in perfect shape today, packed the same as in your pictures. This is not normally how they send me stuff, so color me tickled pink. Or should I say this is not normally how their box sets arrive at my doorstep (I'll hold of on the gory details of past disasters, let's just say this may be a first for B&N). Glad I held my nose and jumped in, at least this one time.

I maybe had a package shipped this way a month or two back. Started out UPS. Ended up being "delivered" to my post office. And the next day it was really delivered by USPS to my mailbox (for all intents and purposes, my house).

Ran is not a CC blu-ray. One of my favorite Kurosawa's, but it's only available via Studio Canal blu-ray. I watched some of it (too soon after watching the Criterion dvd, so didn't finish, for now), and it does have some issues that possibly and/or likely wouldn't have been the case had Criterion been able to do their blu-ray instead, but it wasn't as terrible as some claim. Criterion's dvd wasn't one of their better ones PQ-wise imho, so a net gain as far as I am concerned. Just not as much as anyone would have liked.

Kagemusha probably looks like CC's Ran would have looked like, maybe a little better still, but I wasn't as thrilled by the story. Probably can't go wrong with Seven Samurai, but I've only watched the original CC dvd at this point; no doubt the blu-ray's way better than that. Looking forward to seeing Seven Samurai again before too long. And Yojimbo/Sanjuro too for that matter.

Np. It's saved me a ton of time, some money, and it's hassle free, so far. I couldn't be happier with it.

I wonder if Criterion will ever pass the French New Wave and finally start on the also great 70's (and late 60's) of French Film? Philippe Garrel, Jean Eustache, MORE MAURICE PIALAT? Heck, even though they still haven't released Godard's most important film of the New Wave era, I feel like these directors need a turn with a "wacky C".

Oh, and Hopper's Last Movie.

Oh, and Hopper's Last Movie.
I heard they canceled all the non-New Wave French BD upgrades in order to produce eighteen new hours of bonus content for a forthcoming release of Fantastic Mr. Fox.

I wouldn't doubt it. Important cinema my ***. More like, "what can we make the most money from?". Isn't that how Hollywood keeps falling back in the same hole? Don't base things on money. That will follow.

I mean, as far as Criterion's go, I'm still going to order from their webstore (RHINO 10% off code makes each film 28.76 which beats amazon's 35.99 + store credit), but all other orders will probably go to Amazon from now on.

Hmm. I never considered the "C" to be "wacky". You must read CF a lot?

Just one of my pet peeves. I cringe when I read "wacky C". It's up there with "in order to", "basically" to start a sentence and Sarah Palin allying with North Korea.
