Boat People looks absolutely fascinating, and has instantly found its way onto my wishlist.

Good timing too - I've been watching Ken Burns' documentary "The Vietnam War", and it's one of the most enlightening (and most tragic) war documentaries I've ever seen. Boat People will make a good supplement to this.

So Criterion managed to prise a Fox title from Disney, or is it the tail end of an old deal?

The liner notes on the laserdisc for Miller's Crossing went into detail on the Coen's desired look for the film. IIRC, they worked up a book of color swatches, which was their guide to how the film should look, color-wise, from scene to scene or act to act.

Clearly, the look of the film on laserdisc (and the following first dvd release) was not arrived at willy nilly or absent input from the Coens.

I was disappointed when I first saw the Bd as it (to my eyes) had a discernible teal and orange tilt that the LD and DVD never did.

I'll be curious to see if, like they did with Great Escape and Kino did with Good, Bad, Ugly, Criterion can steer this back to the way it's looked previously.

Only 4 new releases for February? They usually release 5 for that month. I wonder if there’s a fifth mystery title that they will announce and that it’s in UHD. Hmm… Amadeus, by any chance?

The way Criterion releases things, I wouldn't be surprised if they have had this title for years. Someone mentioned they thought they also had Bulworth, but that was like 3-4 years ago, so who knows.

I would love it if it were a new deal, but doubtful.

They might be testing the waters or perhaps have something big in store for March (as in boxset). But I'll take Boat People, Love Affair and Written on the Wind finally coming to blu-ray here over a UHD of a previously released blu-ray any day.

Edit: it's also possible that things have had to be pushed back with all the delays that are piling up

Very happy to finally be rid of my Alpha Video release of Love Affair! Too great of a movie to have a release that was that bad. And to have one of my last remaining Top 30 movies finally get a blu ray, I'm over the moon about Written on the Wind's upgrade! Will happily pre order that!

I first saw Love affair in 2013, and refused to pick up a copy, knowing it is stuck in PD hell. More than thrilled that my soon to be 9 years of patience is gonna pay off!

I can see myself getting Love Affair for the era even though it isn’t something that I can see myself getting the itch to revisit much. Though it’s a good film.

Miller’s Crossing is a dilemma—I’ll probably get it to complete the Coen set but I really can’t seem to get into that one. I’ve tried a few times but the acclaim for this one sorta eludes me.
