If it’s enough of an upgrade I’ll get it eventually. Probably when I can import it at a reasonable price.

Well, 24 months is still months.
I got about $53 plus shipping costs for mine about a year ago, sold as "used-very good".

It’s a shame Le Cercle Rouge is bad 4K, so I’ll be passing on that. They cite using Studio Canal’s 4K. “ New 4K restoration from STUDIOCANAL of the uncut version of the film, with uncompressed monaural soundtrack”

Tempted by The Last Waltz though.

Well, I'll likely be TRIPLE dipping on "The Last Waltz".

I already have the MGM studio BD, plus the Eureka/Masters of Cinema BD (In fact, I JUST rewatched it the day after Thanksgiving).

I'm not 4K, so I guess I'll just buy another blu of it, LOL.

I really wish we'd get some Scorsese we don't already have, though.

"Love Jones" made me cringe in the 90s, so I can only imagine what it would do to my old codger self today. So, I'll pass. (That damn song: "They say I'm hopeless!....as a penny wit a hole in it....")

"Le Cercle Rouge" I surprisingly don;t have, so I may get that.

Everyone is hoping that Le Cercle Rouge will be an upgrade over the previous Studio Canal release, but aren't Criterion's Studio Canal titles usually identical to the oversee ones? That's what I've usually seen.

What does that mean? How is it bad 4K?

The studio canal’s compression is not great, so this has the potential to being better in that sense.

I'm sure it'll be the same transfer as SC's release, but the encode could still be an improvement. The SC also has an extremely low bitrate for a 4K disc, although I may just say 'f**k it' and preorder Criterion's 4K anyway, since nothing else from the March 2022 slate is a day one buy for me.

I imagine he's basing it on the site review.

A lot of people like Studiocanal's release, and consider it a big improvement over the BD releases.

I don't own it, but if I remember correctly a lot of people didn't like the new color revision or whatever was going on with the new master.

The Flight of the Phoenix is a terrific surprise to me - very excited to see it again! Also thrilled for Le Cercle Rouge to finally make its widely speculated return - in UHD no less! And it looks like I'll have to take one last waltz with The Last Waltz - great looking edition!

More than just this sites review, just screen caps and from a trusted friend who’s compared.

Le Cercle Rouge is an interesting inaugural non-Anglophone 4K to say the least. I expected it to be one of the "legacy Janus" titles like Seven Samurai, The 400 Blows, The Seventh Seal, etc.

Did Criterion ever actually announce they're not doing DVD releases anymore? They've been winnowing them down the past few months and today there aren't any at all.

I just noticed that "The Last Waltz" cover shows Scorsese directing The Band!

Gonna have to get this again. Just gotta have the Criterion edition, that cover, and the new features. It may even be a PQ improvement, as well (I'm talking about the BD).

They said that they were going to be making DVDs for titles that hadn't received them.

The Flight of the Phoenix and Le Cercle Rouge for sure! Glad to see a nice uptick in UHD titles to make up for February.

I wonder how many titles Criterion acquired from Fox before Disney got them. Must be a bunch.

I already have the 4K UHD Studio Canal release of Le cercle rouge (1970), as well as their old Blu-ray. Will maybe get this one on 4K UHD too. It's a good film.

I was thinking of buying the Second Run release of Adoption (1975), but now the dilemma gets bigger. I'll probably end up with both that one and the Criterion. I wish it was a 4K UHD release, the choice would probably be easier then.
