The thread will be closed and all the posts will be wiped clear before the new releases get announced. It's looking as if we will have to wait till Tuesday for the announcement

It’s less valid if you’re familiar with Criterion’s history going back to its laserdisc origins. In fact, it has always released recent films. Either that, or the deluxe Criterion LD boxes of “The Rock” and “Armageddon” that I unpacked recently are figments of my imagination.

(I’m still looking for my LDs of “Man Bites Dog” and “Prince of Tides”.)

Not necessarily. Criterion has announced as late as 5:30/6pm in the past.

Oh yeah, I totally forgot that they sometimes announce it in the late afternoon. I've been so used to them announcing it at 1 these last couple of months.

I should post a picture here soon. They're on two standard cheapie Atlantic shelves. The big sets are currently under my 4ks (I bought a bunch of shelving at a closing Blockbuster Video about 4 or 5 years ago).

I actually don't do anything special. Just work for the family land surveying business. I would make a whole lot more if I got my license but I like to paint and watch movies lol. I didn't have to pay for rent or tuition in college (and a couple years beyond) so most of my money went toward bluray collecting in my early twenties

It took me a couple years to get "caught up." I started collecting CC in 2011 I believe. The B&N coupons made it real easy. Still enjoy it today!

I have a small unwatched pile. Maybe 15 outstanding blind buys? Generally 2 releases each month are blind buys for me.

*note: I'm only ever "Complete" after sales.

I don't know about you guys, but I like to just a) buy the movies I'm interested in, and b) not buy the movies that I'm not interested in.

With every new announcement of new titles, there's usually only like 1 or 2 titles that really intrigue me. And that's 100% OK. I appreciate Criterion's diverse output, even if not all of it appeals to me personally.

Sure, there are plenty of things that I wish different boutique labels would release (not just Criterion). But at the end of the day I'm just one guy. If anything I just think it's a great time to be into physical media.

Same here. I got the Criterion blu of Beasts of No Nation (2015) for Christmas, and man, I have really rediscovered that movie in a major way since I last watched it on Netflix. It's so beautifully made and so harrowing.

I'd love Criterion to release a blu for Pig (2021), although mostly just because the current blu-ray is poo poo quality. I believe that one is a NEON title as well.

I have heard Spencer is worse, and Titane will be just as bad too. Neon's releases outside of Criterion have been such trash. Easily the worst of the indie studios.

I also heard rumors that there was an even longer director's cut of Pig, so I'd love for a Criterion release just to see what was cut out.

Exactly. Criterion is niche, just like Vinegar Syndrome is niche. I’m only interested in a handful — pun intended — of VS titles, but I feel zero need to continually post about what they release that will never interest me. Businesses make their own business decisions. Why would I spend time even thinking about what doesn’t interest me when there is so much else that does? I almost exclusively have title loyalty, not brand loyalty.

So far, there's no indication they will, so we may have to wait till Tuesday (Monday being MLK day).

They’ve sometimes announced titles on the Friday before the 15th, they sometime wait until Monday or Tuesday if Monday is a holiday. We don’t know until they announce them. Hence the refreshing.

April would be as good a time as any for Criterion to release a 4K of West Side Story (1961) if they truly have it.

Anyone think that there's a chance of Se7en coming from CC anytime soon? Perhaps in a 4K release?

I find it hard to believe that WB has not released it yet...

You can still buy the old Warner blu-ray for $11 or so.
