Would really like to see Criterion release ANYTHING from Gregg Araki. The Living End (1992) and Nowhere (1997) preferably.

I really hope the reason Criterion hasn't yet released 'Talk to Her' is because it's for an anniversary. I want them to put that one out. I had wondered if they had avoided it because of wokeness. I hope not.

Even if Criterion don't do their own edition, the Sony blu ray is really good IMO.

Man, that reminds me, I've yet to watch any of the films in my AE dvd sets.

Really wish those were still in-print.

It's crazy how difficult it is to see his work in the states.

Tarantino? Can you elaborate on that. Curious about it.

I've seen 11 of Almodóvar's films: ˇÁtame!, Tacones lejanos, Todo sobre mi madre, Hable con ella, La mala educación, Volver, Los abrazos rotos, La piel que habito, Los amantes pasajeros, Dolor y gloria, and Madres paralelas. My favorites have been Todo sobre mi madre and La mala educación; my least favorite is Los amantes pasajeros. I really want to watch his earlier films.

i have to think Talk to Her is definitely coming and i think it will be the next release of his

I relate to his female characters. Death Proof gives me the warm and fuzzies about my ship's mast days.

I always figured they regularly show up on mubi like Tarr and Lav Diaz. I'm probably wrong on that, though.

I'm sure they turn up on certain services, but I'd like to have some of them in my collection.

Beggars can't be choosers though. I'll certainly keep an eye on mubi's revolving titles.

I would agree that Tarantino writes good female characters and it's something he doesn't really seem to get that much credit for in my opinion. Particularly 'Jackie Brown' in terms of dimension and relatability while still being a really cool character.

That being said, the female cast of 'Death Proof' annoyed the snot out of me.

If you're region free, I recommend the BFI version. It's the only version I own/have seen, but it's supposedly better than the Criterion and Gaumont versions (e.g. doesn't have the waxiness of the Criterion).

Jackie Brown. Probably the only white writer who can also write authentic Black characters, which is equally as impressive. John Brown the abolitionist lives through Tarantino!

Oof. I think this is a bad take, and I’m starting to wonder if you’re a parody account. Comparing someone who fought to abolish slavery to a guy who makes movies? Yikes.

I'm not even sure what authentic black character even means. Certainly it's not authentic to anything realistic as far as how African Americans are in real life. Jackie Brown is merely the byproduct of Foxy Brown, Coffy, and plenty of other Blaxploitation portrayals of black women.

I read an article about Márta Mészáros, and the restoration of her movies and am really excited to check them out. Wish Criterion released a boxset or at least moves faster on releasing her movies. Adoption went from a possible blind buy to a definite one!
