February 23, 2021

March 5, 2019
February 13, 2018
February 28, 2017
February 23, 2016
March 10, 2015
February 25, 2014
February 26, 2013
February 14, 2012
February 24, 2011

So I guess we can safely assume that all 4 February titles will be on sale (or minus Boat People, if the sale starts on Feb 15, instead of Feb 22).

Wait, I recall you saying you stored your discs in boxes. Where's that dust coming from?

Cinema-themed pub quiz time:

Name all (five) films Monica Vitti made with Michelangelo Antonioni.

All 4 that I mentioned plus Il Grido, their first film together. From 1957. Although, all she did was dubbing. She only really starred in four of his films.

What do I win?

My only real wish is that it includes all of Lynch’s shorts, Dumbland and Rabbits.

A trailer has been posted for this retrospective. Got me pretty hyped up. Not sure how many of these I'll be able to see, but I'll definitely try to see a few of them.

Lucky you. I received an email with a tracking number on Jan 20 and there hasn't been any movement at all on it.

That's around the time I sent in for it. I never got a tracking number, though. I should mention that I sent for the replacement the old-fashioned way: by mail.

I had put in my request for the new disc at the beginning of the year, and I knew it would be a bit of a wait but this long of a delay after I got a tracking number seems a bit extreme. Especially when I requested a replacement for the Scream Factory Vampire Lovers disc last weekend and it will be here tomorrow.

On a side note wondering about the quality of these movies and if they've received any restoration work in the last decade Samurai Assassin ,Stray Dog and Drunken Angel. I always felt the last two would benefit tremendously from some work as the DVD's are both pretty bad. If there even exists any good prints to get an HD restoration from? Really wish we had these on Bluray.

Wish I was in the East Coast for this. I would love to see Samurai Assassin again. The DVD I had was easily in the top worst transfers on DVD I've ever seen and I remember the film being fantastic. I wonder if there is a list of all 33 films?

EDIT: NM, found the list.

EDIT 2: They are playing Red Lion as well! I love that film so much. Really hope that gets a Blu-ray at some point.

I've actually never seen Red Lion, so definitely going to try and see that one. They're showing the Samurai Trilogy all on one day, which would be pretty epic to see, but not sure I can do that. Tickets are $15 a screening and a membership doesn't offer a huge amount of savings, so I have to set some kind of budget here, and see a few out of the 33 to see.

I just realized tickets are available for sale now too. They had an email signup link to let people know when tickets were on sale, but I didn't get anything yet, so they must have just went live recently.

I just started watching the third episode of the Netflix show Archive 81, and spotted the main character wearing a Criterion Ministry of Fear shirt! The show is really good so far. The main character is a film preservist/restorer working at the Museum of the Moving Image in NYC, and obviously a huge film buff. He's tasked with restoring some old camcorder tapes that were found in a fire. Good mysterious/horror vibes, and nice atmosphere so far. The episode I'm watching was directed by Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead, who were behind movies like The Endless, Resolution, and Spring.

Well, this is a big David Lynch day. Variety announced he's in Spielberg's next film too.

Red Lion is great and hope you enjoy. It initially seems like a comedy, but turns into something else entirely.

Pretty cool that you will be able to check out some of these. 33 is a lot of films, so I don't even know how to pick and choose which ones I'd watch. Again, it's awesome that you will be able to be part of this experience.
