Seven Samurai, Breathless, Wes Anderson, list goes on and on. You were talking popular films, correct?

I LOVE Cage's Wicker Man. People who don't, doesn't understand Cage. It's an hour and a half (or whatever) full of Cage beating the **** out of a cult of women.

I like a lot of cage movies but wicker man and ghost rider were awful. I wanted to get up and leave the theater.

Despite the silliness posted already. It's ceratinly possible, but not likely.

In the early days of Criterion, their focus was very different; releasing films they felt were important for film lovers, since the home video industry wasn't as big as it is now. That included titles like Ghostbusters and Dr. No. Titles that would seem very out of place in the current Criterion Collection. Studios didn't mind letting out the licenses for films because LD was such a niche market.

When DVD became more prevalent, studios started becoming more active in releasing their own titles and only loaning out titles that there really wasn't a mass market for. That's when Criterion shifted it's image, both because it was much harder to get the rights for more current popular films and also because they didn't need to release those titles if people had access to them through other means.

So about ten years ago, Criterion started going towards the more auteur market and has succeeded very well.

But as LD died out, they still released some more "blockbuster" titles and those titles were licenced out to them (especially through Disney companies) in packages. So they would get Pulp Fiction and Chasing Amy, but they'd also get Evita, Dead Presidents and The Rock.

So many (not all) of those mainstream titles were just extra titles in a licensing deal, the kind of deal that doesn't happen nearly as much now that DVD (and Blu-ray) have a much different place in economics.

But occasionally Criterion might want a particular title like Benjamin Button and work something out. It could happen again.

And in the more distant future, the home video market will probably change again and Criterion will hopefully adapt with it, so the image of Criterion may change again. Who knows what will come out for spine #900.

At the expense of losing the respect of everyone here, I thoroughly enjoyed the two National Treasure movies.

Also liked The Weather Man.

Why would you lose our respect? I like The Weather Man.

I also like the National Treasure movies and hope for a 3rd. I don't own them, but doesn't mean I don't like them. I love "chase"-type movies.

I can pretty much watch any Cage movie and enjoy something from it. He is IMO, the best actor in Hollywood in terms of keeping me interested in something. The thing people forgets when hating on Cage is that they take him serious, in which you shouldn't. He plays and has fun. That is cleary his goal.

He can be good when he wants to, but he can be REALLY awful, too.

Awful, or just hamming it up on purpose? He doesn't take himself serious and is actually bad like Keanu Reeves. He ACTS like he is Keanu Reeves. Do you see the difference of what I'm talking about?

Might have been me...though I didn't mention Bergman Island by name...

I tried to watch it more than once and it just didn't do it for me. I rented and eventually bought The Magician, as I really enjoyed it.

I opted to give The Seventh Seal another chance, not only for the film itself, but there is quite a bit of good supplemental material on the film and on Bergman...

I suppose, but still, he should have some decency and not star in a bad film because he wants to be kooky on screen. Like, the character in Bad Lieutenant was supposed to be a nut-job, and he acted the part brilliantly, but he knows a bad film when he reads it, yet he stars in them anyway. That's my beef with Cage. I think he's a tremendous actor and I like a lot of his films, but he needs to chill out.

Is there still an active BOGO coupon and if so, could you please provide a link?

Thanks!
