Put in my order.

Managed to finally hit the 500 points threshold and used the $50 gift certificate on this.

I was thinking of ordering 3 4k releases, but after the taxes it wasn't that much cheaper then ordering off amazon, so i decided to pass this time

Rewards points though, and supporting directly. You got me curious about sales tax though because it sounds like you’re saying Amazon doesn’t charge you?

Just interested in what others are doing. Obviously, any Criterion titles I am interested in I will buy on 4K UHD, if available. But what do you do if a title is only available on Blu-Ray or, even worse, only available on DVD?

I would assume that any Criterion DVD that has not made it over to Blu-Ray is probably not a good seller or Criterion doesn't have the rights to produce the Blu-Ray. But are any of you concerned about spending $20 a pop, during a 50% off sale, on a Blu-Ray that might suddenly be released on 4K UHD? I know I am.

With that said, I just ordered two more Blu-Rays from the current sale, which was in addition to a UHD I purchased.

So, what are the rest of you doing? Any tips?

The only tip I could think of is this: If Criterion has the rights, and the Blu-Ray was made from a 4K scan, then I think there is a good chance we will see a 4K UHD release.

Personally, Criterion doesn't charge state sales tax in South Carolina.

Amazon does.

That can make a difference, for sure.

Just got my first ever $50 gift card! Think I'll wait for the next sale to use it so I can pick up their upcoming 4K releases.

It read to me like they were saying the opposite though, that Criterion charges them tax, but Amazon doesn't.

If it was one or the other, I'd choose the latter mainly due to rewatchability, but the 3 Silent Classics probably has my favorite film overall: The Docks of New York.

You can't go wrong with either.

It's hard to believe that CA is allowing this. I have to pay tax in NY on every order, regardless of who it's with. But that's expected.

Agreed, both sets are great. The Dietrich set is probably the better value too, with 6 films (versus 3) for just $12.50 more during the Flash Sale. But of course the original question asked specifically about silent films in the Collection.

Amazon doesn't collect sales tax in 3 states: Montana, New Hampshire, and Oregon.

I had a $50 gift card burning a hole through my entire body. I used it to get:

• Hard Day's Night
• Citizen Kane (4K, no TV/player but I wanted to get their inaugural 4K release!)
• Irishman
• The New World

I struggled with the fourth one, but I figured it was a good move to get a $50-one when it's half-off.
