I wish they'd put more silents out on blu-ray. I'm not sure when their last one was. Looks like The Cameraman back in 2020. Also worth getting, with a great finale.
ah yeah, forgot about haxan. already have that one and love it

Is the BBS set worth getting? I kinda have my eyes set on that. With my coupon, it’d only be $52.

Easy Rider, Five Easy Pieces, and The Last Picture Show are absolute essentials. Drive, He Said and The King of Marvin Gardens are very good films, too. Head and A Safe Place are a bit decisive, but I'd recommend looking at the box as including four bonus films in addition to the big three.

I guess I might as well get mine out of the way as well since I always do. I ended up with $90 worth of gift certificates of various kinds, so it's not quite as bad as it looks.

Order #2 placed using $20 in gift certificates:

This gets me to the $50 gift certificate which I'll plan on saving for later.

Surely I'm not the only one who still buys DVDs that would never be upgraded on Blu-ray?

Honestly, I would still be buying the Eclipse sets if not for the fact that they're all (or almost all) reliably streaming on the Criterion Channel, and I'm sure from the same prints. Most of these are just bare-minimum works slapped onto discs, and I personally don't mind streaming them as an alternative. The last ones I bought were the Silent Naruse and Oshima two years ago. I do still (mostly in theory) buy DVDs of titles I don't expect to get upgraded though, particularly Second Run DVD titles.

Wondering if people could rate my flash sale pick up and if there's anything else I should potentially check out or maybe swap some things out. Here's what I have in my cart so far.

Now, I still have a list left over of other recommendations that other members have left me, in fact, the 5 here other than Election are all recommendations and some other have told me are also good. But any thing to add? Maybe 1 or 2 more or I could swap something. Any tips would be appreciated!

I realize others, and maybe you, will disagree with me. But I've been collecting movies, including Criterions, for well over a decade. And I have developed one ground rule. I don't buy something unless I've seen it before and I know it's something I will rewatch. I have hundreds of movies that I bought on a whim and that I know I'll likely never watch them again. There's nothing wrong with them, and some of them might actually be excellent movies. But I simply have no desire to rewatch them. I think of those as "one and done" movies.

So, my recommendation is to make sure whatever it is you're buying is something you'll rewatch. So check it out on the Criterion Channel, or borrow it from your local library, and then decide if you want to own it. I realize that some people don't have access to the Criterion Channel, or don't have a public library that carries Criterion titles. In that case, I guess blind buying may be your only option.

I also realize that some people don't care if they buy something they end up not liking because they can simply sell it on eBay. I'm not one of those guys.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

"To Sleep With Anger" is one of the more underappreciated films in the Criterion Collection. Danny Glover's performance is just monumental and Charles Burnett crafts a film that is completely unique in terms of tone and characterization. I don't have any recommendations to add, but "To Sleep With Anger" is a film I would recommend to any cinephile.

Ok, I want to play too. This was my Criterion order. I'm in Canada, so my purchase was through Unobstructed View.

Not gonna quote myself, but just ordered those movies just now. Luckily I also had a $50 credit from getting so many points so I basically got two and a half movies for free!

Technically you're only getting 1/4th a movie there since that half movie is already half-off.
