I just hope they release Drive My Car while the hype is high. It's probably going to win a couple of Academy Awards in a few weeks, and would be nice to have this film become even more accessible than it currently is.

John Waters did say in an interview a couple month back to expect an announcement to be made on March 17. I wouldn't be surprised if they did move the announcements om the 17th because of this.

The Oscars are in a few weeks and they own the rights, so it won't be a Parasite type situation where they have to deal with another studio wanting their release out first. They should have had the movie timed to come out the Tuesday after the Oscars or this announcement of a release to be around the Oscars. I doubt the Oscars will drive too many people to getting the disc, but I also can't imagine the extra hype and talk around it won't hurt.

Drive My Car is such a great film. I'm not sure if this is the case around your area, but AMC will be releasing it to more theaters this weekend, and screenings are just $5. I would strongly recommend seeing it in theaters if you can, It was such a cathartic cinematic experience for me. I'm not sure how it will play seeing it again, but I may go again this Saturday.

I've read every Murakami novel but I've yet to see a movie based on one of his novels or short stories.

But these are the June releases. A Drive My Car announcement right now won't make much difference.
