I'm not going to argue semantics with you. I know what I said. I know what I meant. I'm sorry if I offended your artistic sensibilities. Apparently, "cartoon" was the wrong word for me to have chose.

That's very poor logic. And what exactly does that have to do with them being illustrations? Are you actually saying because both happen to be illustrations of a man and woman embracing that somehow should lead to the assumption that the two movies will be the same watching experience? Since your argument is against cartoon, or illustrated covers, are you then saying that if the two covers above were of actual photos of people, and not illustrations, you'd think differently? I mean, you have to realize how silly, and nonsensical an argument that is to make.

what logic am I imparting? that the aesthetic of 2 drawings are the same? you're telling me that I'm wrong for thinking of Polyester when I saw the Rouge cover art?

please also tell me where I stated that I was "against cartoon or illustrated covers?"

you really have a problem with projection, mifunefan. my last post indicated that I wish to back off of this conversation. you should do the same.

Okay, fair enough, and this will be my last post on the matter too. I just want to clarify that it was you saying "I think Criterion should perhaps move on from cartoon looking cover art" that led me to believe you were against such covers, so I apologize if my interpretation of that statement is wrong.

Things to remember. Stanley Kwan is still alive and approved the cover art for his own movie.

Speaking of cover art, I just realized something. I've seen so many people say stuff like "I don't care what the cover looks like, I just want the movie. It could be in a brown paper bag for all I care!"

Criterion finally listened

Yes. Absolutely. I joined this site because of my interest in Criterion, and there's still that sense of excitement each month.

Oh, this is wonderful! What a great month from Criterion!

We get another bona fide classic Black film on 4K from Gordon Parks, as the highlight of the month. And although not my favorite Water's film due to its grotesquerie and animal cruelty, Pink Flamingos is an important film that should have been added to the collection a long time ago in lieu of others. Honestly, surprised to see that so many here are fans of it. (It's not Japanese or Kurosawa ). In that same vain, Rouge by gay director and starring bisexual actor Leslie Cheung is a welcome surprise. And an even more welcome surprise is Ekwa Msangi's seldom seen immigrant drama Farewell Amor. Both films deserve widers audiences. Hopefully, this will help that cause. Rounding out the cast is the much-hyped international film The Worst Person in the World, which I haven't seen yet but will be watching this weekend. Too bad that cover art leaves a lot to be desired.

A few days ago, I stumbled across a parody of the Janus Films logo, except it was spelled as "Anus" instead of "Janus", and instead of two faces facing in opposite directions, it was two butts pointing in opposite directions.

I have ventured onto reddit to see if I could find it again, but I can't find it anywhere. If someone can manage to recover this image for me it would be much appreciated. <3

Anus Films is a sub-label of Altered Innocence:

I received my Bergman box set, and the only "packing material" was a 4x1 strip of cardboard jammed in one top-back corner. Very cool.

All your favorites have a "million-to-1 shot" of entering the Proctorion Collection.

I was watching Tampopo with my wife and everything was going well until one of the scenes with the gastronomist and his girlfriend.
[Show spoiler]They move a raw egg yolk between their mouths
My wife immediately was grossed out and kept yelling “salmonella!” Anybody have something similar while watching?

Besides that, the movie is a big hit with us.

Pasteurization and the fact that countries such as Europe vaccinate their hens should be enough to enjoy a "raw" egg.

The movie also shows the gangster character eat raw oysters, which can be a source of bacterial infection like vibriosis. Let's face it, gangsters like to live dangerously.
