I have that dvd. He mentions trying to get Mr. Ray into his films and does a dead on impression of the man with the most Baltimorean accent I ever heard. Mr. Rays hair weave commercials played on both Baltimore and D.C. stations back in the day and they were a riot. I think a few of them might still be on YouTube.

It's about time Criterion gets its act together and releases Summertime in blu. This is not only a David Lean classic, but one of Katherine Hepburn's best nuanced performances IMO. It's also pure eye candy nostalgia of Venice in the 50's.

The other glaring omission is Peter Weir's The Last Wave getting a blu release. Both of these films seem like a no-brainer and have been sitting in Criterion's dust bin for far too many years.

You forgot to predict that some will hate the cover art but love the movie and some will love the cover art but whine it's only an average movie but will still purchase because of the cover art.

And Svet will review them and use terms such as fluidity and healthy and generally give top grades across the board.

My July predictions:

At least one person in this forum will be so overjoyed from seeing one of their favorite films come to Criterion, that they will either a) faint, b) get up and dance, c) sing out loud, or d) post something here in the "The Criterion Collection" thread about how happy they are.

We need a "Design your own Criterion" option

Criterion could do a companion box set to the Lean/Coward one that's something like "David Lean Adapts For the Screen" including Great Expectations, Oliver Twist, Madeline, The Passionate Friends, Hobson's Choice, and Summertime. All are adaptations of literature or stage and except for Madeline wrote/co-wrote the screenplays.

I’d be ecstatic to see Faya Dayi in the July titles. If not, that’s okay. I’ve learned to just vibe and chill when it comes to Criterion announcement day. And announcement days in general from labels. I’m along for whatever.
