I'd love a Criterion "Silence", also.

Largely an unsung masterpiece. I saw it three times in the theater.

I would pump the brakes on assuming that photo means that Raging Bull is getting a 4K release. That shot is the organist trying to instill some calm after a fight breaks out in the arena. I find it humorous that Criterion would use that photo when delaying their announcement for a second time. That’s all I’m reading into it.

Again, as I mentioned in the UHD thread where you posted this, the covers, and info have already been leaked. It is happening.

I’m aware. There are many UHDs of 2K upscales. The HDR and extra space, along with the superior encoding of their 4K discs would no doubt improve upon a 2K disc.

If that list of titles is true, darn it. I own the Twilight Time Devil in a Blue Dress and just bought the Indicator version.

How about a Sofia Coppola 4K box set?

Her first three films are iconic and Marie Antoinette screams 4K material, Somewhere was beautiful, The Bling Ring perfectly captured the atmosphere of it's time. The Beguiled I liked and it can benefit from an HDR release. On the Rocks I can do without since its already 4K on Apple and I don't know if they'd ever partner with Criterion.

They confirmed The Virgin Suicides had a 4K remaster, and the image would be awesome with Dolby/HDR.

I feel like the chances of Criterion doing an upscaled UHD release were dead in the water when they didn't do one for The Worst Person in the World

I don't ever recall almost knowing all of the new releases before the actual announcements until now. Criterion really spoiled it this time!

But hey, Raging Bull I'll take any day.

I've been waiting for Criterion to do a "Marie Antoinette" release since Sony put the film on BD-R. It's just too sumptuous and rich a film for Criterion to ignore, especially since it's gotten a critical reevaluation since its original release and some people are preferring it to "Lost in Translation" as her masterpiece.

It is a strange title for a TT rescue with UHD bump, but it is their first Sony licensed UHD, so hopefully it's the first of more to come.

Sort of hilarious that Criterion kept people waiting and pushed back announcements twice, only for them to be leaked anyway.

I'd encourage all those Raging Bull fans to check out The Set Up.
The WB release has a commentary with Scorsese, who was highly influenced by it.

Great movie, I like it more than any Scorsese movie, lol

Me either. That's why I'll buy it on UHD and maybe reassess my opinion after all these years!

Ya'll really need to start messaging Jon Mulvaney about Sofia Coppola in 4K.

She's based in New York and is in good standing with them. I see her as a counterpart to Wes Anderson whom Criterion has released all films for (except Isle of Dogs and The French Dispatch). Two directors with their own very distinct vision, tastes, and atmosphere. She has one foot in with The Virgin Suicides, so I think other films of hers would be likely.

By the way I predict Isle of Dogs 4K. It's been long enough and it has a 4K master despite only being released in HD on Blu-ray. The same with The French Dispatch inregards to quality and release (but I understand that is a new release, so likely won't see it for a while).

I imagine there's some reason behind the delays. People act like they're doing it for spite like that makes any kind of sense.
