Still disappointing, but less so. Kino did the same for its 4k of The Great Escape, so I'm hesitant to upgrade my Criterion of the same. Of course that's Kino, I expect them to do things on the cheap (The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly doesn't have HDR either). Not so much for Criterion.

Solaris set with the old TV version, Tarkovsky’s (4k upgrade), Soderbergh’s (also 4k), and Hamaguchi’s.

It’s hard to directly correlate them as Criterion uses different wording but can’t see The Bronx Bull listed. If Remembering Jake was new to the 30th anniversary release it can’t be the 2004 program. “Three short programs highlighting the longtime collaboration between Scorsese and actor Robert De Niro” might cover Marty and Bobby, Reflections on a Classic and Marty on Film? I’m okay with De Niro vs. La Motta: Shot for Shot and La Motta Defends Title being dropped as they’re quite short.

I'm pretty sure they tend to announce them in June/July timeframe (I think Bergman was April) and then release them October/November.

Since everything else lines up, I can't imagine there are two featurettes that have pretty much the same description. It's possible they just got the year of it wrong, or it was made in 2004, and they only just added it to the 2011 release.

Remembering Jake:

Quote:
Members of the Veterans Boxing Association discuss their memories of the Bronx Bull, Jake La Motta.
Criterion:

Quote:
Program from 2004 featuring veteran boxers reminiscing about La Motta

Okja, not a film I'd really need to watch again, but I'll grab it. Why not?

It’s the June Swoon that lasts throughout July.

The Kino 4k is superior to the Criterion blu, just for the encode alone. You're missing out by not picking that one up.

Finally saw "The Girl Can't Help It", this afternoon. In all these years, I'd never seen it all the way through.

It is...cutesy. And it is a rather charming relic of its time. Lots of double entendres that are pretty bold for that time. Kinda wears out its welcome towards the end. Starts off quite interesting. Good music numbers, but we never see a whole number, really. They're kinda just background. Anyway, charming and light enough for an afternoon matinee in the easy chair.

Glad I did that one first, out of my new ones. "Walker" and "Miracle in Milan", later.

Okay, this just keeps happening. What is the point of having a pristine 4K remaster of Summertime and not releasing a UHD for it! This is the only thing keeping this announcement from being one of the most exciting in ages.

Spine #1138 is coming up soon. It'd be awesome if they got the rights to THX-1138.

Is there any chance that could happen? Who would they have to license it from? Warner Bros.? Lucasfilm/Disney?

We’ve had enough controversy about Criterion releasing director’s cuts without including the original recently!

Criterion July Announcements = Go Big or Go Home!

Yup, nothing more to add to that.

One of these years, whenever I get back to my storage locker to retrieve all 1,203 blu-rays and DVDs that I own, I'll be adding Criterion's UHD of Raging Bull to that collection.

Until then, all I have to say is: "If you win, you win. If you lose, you still win."

I wonder if they have the 4k rights. Who is the studio?
