I don't think I've ever seen any public comment deriding someone for the smallness of their purchases, or even for the selection.

I really don't think most people think of it as a competition.

I agree with you, thankfully. I'm sure it's just a select few. I guess I'm just a little surprised at the negativity coming out about sharing such things. It's always seemed positive and fun to me.

My entire movie library is stored in 4 or 5 giant U-Haul boxes that probably weigh 100lb or more, so I didn't bother shipping all of those boxes here to Israel, as I'm most likely returning back to the USA this Summer. The experiment here isn't working out the way I had planned.

I have to admit, I really do miss my blu-rays. I'm just secretly not sharing my emotions because I feel ashamed to have any sort of attachment to any of my possessions, especially physical media.

I ran into the same problem. Giant porn collection too?

I hope this sentiment is part of the majority. I suspect some do compete on here though, unfortunately.

Nah, I'm shooting an experimental documentary here in the West Bank. Kind of keeping it low key. Can't share details. That and a few other things.

I'd never compete, but my "collection" isn't really a personal celebration of "film" as such... My physical media collection is mostly focused on the stuff that turns me on. I'm kinky. I don't collect porn, just mainstream Hollywood or UK stuff, some European. But not counting the old movies and TV shows I used to enjoy when I was a kid, and the stuff targeted at my geeky pop culture interests, my Blu-rays and DVDs all have scenes or moments or just single shots that just push my lust buttons in one way or another.

If anyone really wanted to know what I've been buying or something I'm interested in, they can freely check my collection here, but no one has ever mentioned it to me, so I assume they don't. I appreciate Discogs as well, and without these crowdsourced databases we wouldn't even know all that exists out there. I contribute entries and updates to the database because others have done that for me, and that's how this works. You give and you get. But as far as the rest is concerned, I've entered my collection for myself.

That certain member has argued with others before and defensively told me in the Kino thread that my collection here is made up, that I didn't buy anything in the Kino sale and therefore my opinions are less valid, and that they spent $200 and therefore should be more respected than me. I don't enjoy stooping to their level, but I responded with all of my Kino receipts from the last several years and they not only shut up for a while, but deleted some of their posts. You'd think that'd be embarrassing enough for them, but when it's just a game there's always someone new they can attempt to belittle. Good thing they're ignoring all of us now.

I own movies to watch movies. I don't care about slipcovers, cover art, or any of the other packaging bells and whistles, nor do I care how many movies other people buy or don't buy. These movies are for me and me alone and I enjoy discussing them, but I don't care who doesn't like them, how I buy them, when I buy them, or where I buy them.
I agree, especially with the last paragraph (although personally I do care about slipcovers, steelbook editions and cover art lol but not to the point where I will skip a movie because of it.

I agree 100% on this too, but the point of the discussion is that there are some people who really take it to the next, unhealthy level and *attempt* to ruin the fun for others.

I definitely don't think of it as a competition, but like I said there are people who really scrape the bottom of the barrel and use other people's collections as a last resort to insult them.

Like it's totally cool to look at someone's collection to see similar interests or whatever (I recently stumbled on a comment by someone I used to talk with a lot a few years back, and decided to see how their collection was going since I know they're a total collector type, and it was pretty cool), but taking time out of your day during an argument to look for something to pick on them about is just sad.

Someone attacks me because of my collection, I tell them to **** off and put them on ignore. Not hiding it because some childish douchebag might try to use it against me in an argument.

If I look at someone's collection, and they have similar tastes to my own, I'll try and strike up a conversation with them. If they don't, I'll leave them alone.

There are buttholes everywhere. It's best to deal with it in a healthy way, like with unlimited mockery until they go away.

I’ve definitely discovered more than a few great films from browsing other people’s collections. Especially from Criterion.

I emailed Criterion about The Virgin Suicides:

Quote:
Thank you for writing and for your interest in our upcoming 4K UHD release of VIRGIN SUICIDES!

This release is HDR10, not Dolby Vision.

For added reference I wanted to note that this 4K maintains the wide color P3 gamut but does not contain true HDR highlights. This is at the filmmakers' request, since the muted highlights are a stylistic choice that they did now want to alter. As always, we worked closely with the creators of the film to preserve their vision for this release.
