I refuse to double dip on planned future Criterion releases when it comes to Wes Anderson films. I just purchase the digital copy at a reasonable price and watch the film on occasion until it's released properly by Criterion. If you're physical media all the way then waiting has got to be a pain in the butt.

I paid $13 for The French Dispatch sold the code, so really only cost me $8. I paid $5 for TGBH and then sold that code too, so basically free. The wait between that one and the Criterion was 6 years, and the presentation didn't appear to be that different, just more extras.

Janus Films will be distributing the new 4K restoration of Jean Eustache's 'La Maman et la putain' later this year. I also received confirmation that Criterion has the rights to all of the Jean Eustache films.

The book is great, though.

Almost pure nihilism distilled.

I keep wanting to go in order, Book, 1947 film, 2021 Film. I'm just waiting on the next Barnes sale to get the movie and book in one fell swoop!

This is exciting, they can see the light of day again! I was expecting Criterion to get the rights when the movies were being restored.

For some reason, I felt like I could not watch del Toro's version unless I had read the book and seen the 47 film first.

So, over a weekend or so, I read the book and then watched both movies.

I mean...I felt good afterwards.

That works. But I sell on ebay so there's nothing permanent about double dipping. That works too.

There's also an excellent comic book adaptation by underground comix legend Spain Rodriguez.

I prefer it over either film version.

Well after saying about a week or so ago that I didn't want to show my collection to anyone, I've finally started cataloguing it here. god, it's a boring, tedious, process. I keep taking so many breaks, I'll probably never get it all done.

TCM showed a nice print of Ginger and Fred early today. Such a sweet film and a real treat to see the two stars together. I don’t remember if there was a reason given that it wasn’t included in the Fellini set but I see the dvd release was through MGM so maybe that’s it. Watching it was funny in that it was obviously poking fun at tv programs, specifically variety shows (and commercials) with outlandish Fellini images and faces. The irony being that tv programming today is sooooo far beyond the oddball 1986 look that they seem lovably quaint now. Anyway, ramble aside, I hope this gets an upgrade from someone.

I just reserved a ticket to see a big screen showing of The Blob at Atlanta's oldest movie house, The Plaza, on June 4.

I am beyond overjoyed. This is one of the greatest films ever made, and it will be quite an experience to see it in such a setting.

I hope that Criterion upgrades this to 4K soon.

Thanks but it's actually easier for me to just click the add icon under the covers. Boring, but easier.

MGM released the film internationally and Warner is the current rights holder and video distributor in the US (part of the old Turner buyout of MGM.) There wasn’t a restoration of the film completed at the time of the Criterion set but I believe a Blu-ray was finally released in Italy or France last year from a new master, though I haven’t heard anything about how it is.

Hope an English friendly Blu-ray does surface soon, I believe my old DVD is a ticking time bomb from the infamous mid-late 00s batch of Warner product.

Thanks. I was thinking about picking up the dvd but I have too many of those old self-destructing WB discs already.

Are you entering the UPC? Otherwise, how do you know you’ve added the correct version?
