I get that issue, but even before that people complained about releases they'd never heard of and constantly stomping their feet about more Scorsese or whatever major US film/filmmaker they know of. That article only gave the complainers more fuel, even when that isn't the reason they haven't released enough Scorsese or whoever. In simpler terms, what good does making the same complaints every month do? Criterion gonna Criterion and try to highlight lesser known releases. None of the trolls are going to suddenly convince them otherwise. I just don't see the point in any of it. I buy movies that sound interesting to me, no matter what company releases them.

It's not just noise. It's more sinister than that. They hate the idea of private freedoms: individuals or companies making their own decisions about what they want to do. Rather they believe anything influential is public property and that they're the voice of the public (natch).

That's not what the complaint was about. It was that there was a distinct dearth of films from African-American filmmakers, to which Criterion have worked towards remedying.

The company themselves admitted this deficiency at the time the article came out, so it's no use trying to chime in to defend them over it.

Has anyone had playback issues with the Criterion Collection UHD titles? I would like to buy a couple of the UHD ones, but I have had problems with NIB UHD Blu-rays skipping or stuttering in my players. I think one was a defective disc. I have had a few so far with the issue, all from Paramount. Anything to worry about?

I haven't heard of any playback issues with them.

Blind bought the Ingmar Bergman’s Cinema set pretty cheap off of Amazon via a third party seller (Acceptable condition for $98.57 with tax and gift card).

Hopefully it’ll come with everything, and it won’t be too damaged.

Any ideas or recommendations on where to start first? Seventh Seal sounds great from the description.

Seventh Seal is quite terrific.
But I suggest you start with the trilogy (Through a Glass Darkly / Winter Light / The Silence) - they are more intimate films that give you concise picture of the maker's pet subjects for exploration in his art.

The set is not organised chronologically but as it might have been for a film festival. I wasn't sure about it but I tried watching it in that order and so far it's working out fine.

That's exactly how I've been slowly going through it. I love the simulation of a repertory experience.
